It's now about a week that we have our new WEB site online. I haven't been involved in it's design or anything but of course I'm quite interested in how it is perceived and what has to be done to make it better. It certainly is miles ahead the old pages, no doubt about that.

So if you have a few minutes to spare, have a look at the IOW pages and let me know what you think. I would prefer to get your verdict, comments etc. at my works mail ( ralf dot prien at io-warnemuende dot de )(you know how to reassemble that address). If it is more convenient for you, however, then use the message system of this site or leave a comment in this thread.

Your comments are appreciated be it praise or scathing critique.
Thanks,
Prieni

Tyr,

it seems you are barking up the wrong tree!

Disclaimer: It is easy to tell from the text but I am nasty and cynical

Galoot, where are you:

Oh, he's probably out with his fisheye

My guess is that he'll be the man to beat...

Tony-O, thanks for setting an inspiring theme, it brought out the best of the crowd.
And thanks for my second, glad that you liked this one better than the book.

Well done Dr. Mhuni, had I not lived in Britain it would have been a hard one. Very pleasing image, I like the reflections. Nicely polished plug, BTW.

The revelations show that I was wrong in a few cases and clueless in others (though that's not new to me).

Well done everyone, great competition!

Rob,

I like the shot. Yes, it is a bit dark but then I find that quite appealing. I did have a go at lightening it a bit in PS but that didn't add anything, so I find it good as is.

The flying tie does give a sense of action. The girl in the middle does have a convincing serious face. So either she was not happy with how the others were acting or she is quite good at it.

RR,

that is another one that could be submitted to the weekly competition as well as this one.

Nice one,
Prieni

P.S.: mikew, beautiful entry. I think I have an idea what it is but I'm not sure.

Very nice, Martin!

In both shots I find the background a bit distracting. It seems you did everything right to blur the background while having the subjects well in focus and sharp. Still, there are too many lines and patterns in the background.

#1 shows a very nice detail and the depth of field is exactly right for that curl.

#2, a triplet announcing spring. Focus spot on, as is exposure.

Absolutely, it's a book. When I took the shot and saw the pattern of the pages at the spine (how they seem to go round each other) I thought it might obscure the true nature.

It's not the first time I discovered an interesting feature while looking through a macro lens (and sometimes I only discovered such a feature while looking at the photo on the monitor).

Aiki: I wouldn't think of winning both but yes, the thought to submit one picture for two competitions had crossed my mind. However, I thought that the one I submitted to the fortnightly competition is the more appealing image...

Aiki,

have a look around at home. I'm sure you have something similar at home.

Yes, there is a little textile part that we can see, and yes, there is some gold cover (as I said, that isn't always the case). What we see is slightly rounded but when speaking of this "thing" I wouldn't really think of it as round. Remember that the brief was to show things from an unusual angle. And usually you look at it from another angle.

No Aiki, it is no musical instrument at all.

BTW: The gold does not come with this "thing" as standard. Only for selected varieties. But I wouldn't call it uncommon...
