Great set! I also prefer the landscape but the images of the peloton do work well for me, too. Longer lens would have been nice but it's also a bit more hit and miss with the vibration.

McGregNi, it's not toning but just desaturation. It's mainly two layers involved, the straight shot and a HDR'ed version (I'm using SNS-HDR but don't think it matters too much which software is used - the further processing is done in Photoshop). Depending on the shot I might copy the original photo and use a soft light layer mode on that (and adjusting the brightness of that layer to suit) before adding the HDR layer, usually using normal layer mode and tuning opacity down.
Next I'm using a channel-mixer layer for the mono conversion (it allows you to adjust the different colours a bit differently - if the gradation is as you like then you might as well use hue/saturation and just desaturate). The opacity on that layer is taken back a bit to make the original colours appear.
Usually a vignette is added by using a gradient from transparent (middle) to black using soft light layer mode and adjusting opacity again. Sounds all more complicated than it is.

On #4: Yes, I see what you mean, especially when comparing it to #3. I'm torn between the contrast of the shadows (better in #3) and the detail on the shirt in the arms shadow (nicer in #4). But I guess I could adjust it to be a bit darker and still retain the texture of the shirt.

McGregNi: You may be on to something with a bit less sky in #1. Just scrolled up a little and have to agree.
Not so sure about the lower viewpoint as that would have left only the tree tops in the background peeking out. Going even lower and shooting against the sky would have been possible, would have been good with a blue sky, I think.

Excellent seascapes! (The bird shots are not less competent, it's just that the subject doesn't interest me too much.)

Looking at the images I wonder if they would look more pleasing to the viewer unaware of the lay of the land if they would be mirrored. Difficult to choose a favourite between 4, 5 and 6.

Marvellous set (though my judgement is skewed as I'm a F1 fan). And yes, ample reason for being envious.

I'm glad for Lewis winning his home grand prix (and in the process keeping the only bit of excitement about the championship alive).

I'm wholeheartedly with Dr O. I would prefer to see PU as photography forum first and foremost with Pentax being a common denominator with the member photographers. If one has made a fine image he or she wishes to get feedback for it shouldn't matter if that was taken with the Pentax or another brand. As the Dr. poknted out, promotion of other brands at the cost of Pentax should have no room. The same should hold for promotion of other fora.

What would help us all improving our photography would be honest and outspoken critique that isn't received as personal insult. Maybe a seperate sub-forum "tread on my toes with your critique" (well, that shouldn't be the actual title obviously) could serve that purpose.
