No doubt the colour popping works. Question is: Would it work without colour popping? I don't think it would, too much going on on the side of the street. So the decision was right and it's also well done.
What I don't like is that the tram is too central in the frame and looking at this a bit longer I would crop in from the left and the top. It's the areas where not much is going on and you w ...

Don't give up on PentaxExpert just yet!
PentaxExpert, I think you have a point there with the "modern" and "arty" feel. I think composition wise it's a shot that could be found in many a forum. Usually, though, this kind of shot is tack sharp and in focus.
This looks like a massive crop, so it might even have been in focus:shock:

Peter, it's definitely the first of your options.

Excellent! Somehow makes me think 'Scottish widows', though. :)

That is a difficult call (to say which is better). I think both have their merits. The colours of the leaf are really nice but if you want to emphasize the shadow (which is the feature of this shot) than the mono version is better.
Excellent work either way...

And I can assure you that this was the right decision, as I like your actual entry better. It is an interesting shot in it's own right, though, and certainly is an abstract. It reminds me of the shower gel series that I have done a while ago (see )

Very nice indeed. Is that taken in the New Forest? It's your next door, isn't it? (I used to live in Southampton and have friends in Hythe).

Terrific shot. Looks like it's smiling for the camera.
It's a bit cool for my taste but that's all fault (if you could call it that) I can find with this superb shot :)
BTW: This site might be the right place for a shot like this.
If I read on dpreview right then they are looking for fresh squirrel shots again.
