Hi Chris,

nice shots..

Yep. I haven't got the hang of autofocus yet (for moving subjects), so it was manually (not quite) focused.
You have the K10D yes. Has it got the mode switch that the *istD series has? If so, there's a mode with a running man, that is basically for continuous AF while tracking a subject. Ah, no.. it's got the AF-C or AF-S options on the switch hasn't it. Switch to AF-C (continuous). I could of course be talking rubbish having not held a K10D.

Cheers

Hi Matt,

yep, that's what I was thinking of..

The above settings are almost the defaults for USM.. in GIMP at any rate, I just take the Amount down from 0.5 to 0.4 when used..

Hi Pete,

ist DL, with 18-55 kit lens. I took it almost a year ago now, so I can't remember what I did to it exactly, but almost certainly no more than my usual sharpening..

Unsharp Mask

Radius 5.0
Amount 0.4
Threshold 0

There is a term for this type of sharpening, something to do with contrast?? Matt did tell me exactly what it was, but I can't remember the ins and outs precisely.. it just works for me.

Off out for a beer..

Cheers

Hi,

I've only really had one serious attempt at this...

Comment Image

I used GIMP, and desaturated all colours except red. (GIMP's satuation tool gives you red, magenta, blue, cyan, green and yellow, of which you can change all hues accordingly.. I don't know how PS does this) I then checked for any stray red that I didn't want.. there were a few leaves on the ground for instance.. then selected the areas seperately and desaturated where needed.

Once I'd figured out what I wanted from the image it took only a few minutes.

There's also ICS in the UK,

http://www.icslearn.co.uk/creative-skills-leisure-courses/photography/

They're basic courses, but you get a City &Guilds certificate out of it. I used ICS many years ago for a Motor Cycle Mechanics course, and they are pretty good. It was long before t'internet, so I can only assume that they're even better now.

Hi aj,

the colour of the water in the original image.. gorgeous.. utterly gorgeous. Go back with a chainsaw, and take down the tree on the right, and centre the composition. The key for me though is the colour of the water. I may have mentioned that before..

Hi,

did you record to video or DVD. If you recorded to DVD, stick it in the PC and grab frames off of it.. most DVD software does this. If video, find a mate with a video and recordable DVD machine and rerecord it, and then do the same. Taking a photo off the TV is a problem because of the refresh rate of the screen.. with CRT anyway.

No problem..

shop around for a good price. I don't know if the link I gave is good or not.. it just served as illustration.
