Hi Simon, and welcome to the forum..

If they fit, they'll work.. which is the good news. I'm sure you'll get a better explanation, but basically, switch to manual focus on the front of the camera, and set the dial to M for manual. Set the aperture on the lens and off you go.. ish. have a look through this thread, for a better idea.

I just checked my ME Super, and it looks as though it's there to soften the blow when the mirror raises.

Hi all,

I've used BonusPrint a couple of times, and they offer a very good service. The prints were exactly as I wanted them, the price isn't bad.. 5+ 12x8s at £1.10 each (IIRC), and if you upload them now, you'll get them in the post tomorrow morning. I don't think they guarantee any more than a couple of working days, but it's been next working day both times for me.

For uploading they provide a couple of options, one of which is a little dedicated app you can download. You then sort out your order, pay your money securely, and just let the upload run in the background, whilst you do something else.

They do (again IIRC) an ICC (?) colour profile as well.

Anyway.. off to golf in a bit.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Quote:
Autofocus works by looking for contrast changes in specific strips of pixels (AFAIK), so in low light you are not going to get much contrast in those strips, therefore autofocus wont't work in low light.
For reference Pete..

Quote:
If you have a flash unit such as the AF360, there is a red illuminator which throws a grid of red light onto the object to allow the AF to work in almost totally dark conditions.
I tried this within an hour of getting my 360. Forget almost.. It works perfectly in total darkness.. perfect focus and exposure every time.. I just can't manage that in daylight..

Pete, until you get you get a 360 or 540 flash gun, you'll just have to focus manually when it gets too dark for the AF to work.

Hi all,

With all this talk of web design in a couple of threads, I was having a mess around last night and this ended up happening..

I know it's not photography, but I think it's safe to say it's not exactly off topic for a site that coincidentally happens to be called Pentax user..

Hi UIS..

Quote:
I must get some filters for mine as well. Maybe the same choice as you. Does anyone know of a good make to go for. I am a bit out of touch with whats available.
Go for Cokin.. or Lee when you win the pools..

The advantage of a system like Cokin, is that when you add a new lens to the collection, you need only buy a new step/down ring if required to fit the filter holder to that lens. This saves the cost of buying new filters for each size. I then leave the step ring on the lenses to protect the filter thread, and also the lens to some extent, as it overhangs the outer edge.

I may also see if I can buy a power supply for use with the computer instead of batteries. Any comments on where to buy one would me good.
I wouldn't bother personally. Use good rechargeables.. Uniross 2500mAh are the ones I use. The cells are about the same price as non-rechargeable Duracells, (£1 each approx) but you'll get a thousand odd charges from a set. You'll also get anything up to 700-800 images a charge, depending on how often you use the flash, compared to about 50 if you're lucky fronm alkalines. About 14,000 times cheaper in the long run, and the charger's only going to be £10-15, for a 2 hour charge. I have four sets, and have never been caught out.

Don't bother connecting the camera to the PC.. just get hold of a card reader for £5-£10 and use that.

Tripods, you'll have to wait for someone else. I have a perfectly serviceable Vanguard (in the back of Mrs Liam's car at the moment, so can't remember the model) but don't use it that often to be honest.

Hope that helps,

Cheers

All Pentax AF cameras provide focus confirmation with any manual lens, provided there is sufficient light for the AF sensor to operate.

I can even get that with an f8 mirror lens (most of the time) in good light and with enough contrast, (that being the key to AF afterall) which is way past the "official" limit of around f5.6.

Hi Peter,

rather than disconnecting the contacts, is there enough tolerance between the grip's socket and the flash head, to just insulate them with insulation tape or similar. Failing that, have you got an accessory shoe that you could mount on the grip to negate the problem?

I haven't got one to have a look at.. hence the suggestion.

Cheers
