Hi Jonathon,

if you think the expense is justified, then you may want to look at one of these..

http://www.theflashcentre.com/wein-safe-sync-hotshoe-to-hotshoe-i358.html

It goes betwen the flash and hotshoe and regulates the voltage. Perfectly safe to use your other flashes then.. also has the pc connector, that is missing on the DSLR bodies.

Cheers

You're welcome AJ..

it's there for the Windows guys now if anyone needs it. Don certainly knows his way around a Mac, so I'm sure either he, or someone else will carry this on..

Hi AJ, no problem

I have to assume you're using Windows.. if not, there are plenty of Mac/Linux users who will join in any minute..

..and I'd assume that any differences would be in the background environments, rather than at the GUI level.. so..

From the start.. for everyone else as well.. go here..

http://www.neatimage.com/download.html

and click download.

Click Run, and follow prompts, sticking with the suggested defaults. The last installation screen you get will have the option to launch on finishing. Make sure it's ticked (default is ticked) and click finish. The NI splash comes up.. click OK in the bottom right corner.

Once NI loads, in the top left there will be a tab Open test Image, click and browse to the image you want to work on. Once slected, it will open in the viewing panel. Click next on Device noise profile. Under that tab you will see the Auto Profile drop down box. For now, just click that (the other options are for using the downloaded profiles etc.) and NI will determine a section of the image, that is relatively flat, and calculate the noise levels therein.

Click the next tab along on the top Noise Filter settings and choose the adjustments you require (I haven't used it enough to suggest them off the top of my head, so have a play.. that's all I'd be doing right now)

Next click the Output Image tab, and once determining the settings in the RH panel, click the Apply button on the top left.

That's pretty much it really. I'm sure that those who use NI more than I, can give you some starting parameters to go from, but that's the gist of it anyway.

nb. The file path BTW, if you followed defaults will be Crogram FilesNeat Image

Hi AJ,

I use it, and I don't use PS in any variant..

Just download it, use the profile supplied for your particular camera, or create your own.. IIRC, a picture of the sky at various ISOs is all that's needed) and away you go.

Hi AJ,

http://www.neatimage.com/

it's a stand alone tool, although it does integrate with PS if needed.

"Nice picture, but the real Rose is a bit more, well, um, "Up Front""

Language Timothy..

Brit humour.

"Series 2 "Torchwood"

For those that don't know.. Torchwood is an anagram of "Doctor Who"

I've been out for the evening, so please excuse me stating the bl*****g obvious.

Off topic I know..

but I just came in and caught the last 30 minutes or so of Dr. Who. First time I've seen it in probably 15+ years.. and I'm hooked.

Back on topic though, great picture John,

Hi Brian,

the sunset one's a cracker, lovely rich colours and a simple silhouette to show them off..

and I'll look at cats all day.

If I had to find something to critique.. and I struggled, it would be to close down the lens a stop for the cat. The right eye is going out of focus just slightly, and they do say that a portrait is in the eyes.. or something.

Hi Don,

I like the border of the portrait.. or some of it.

When I first opened the page, and saw the portrait, I thought that the effect was great, in that it added real depth, but I saw only the effect that the top 2/3rds of the LHS border gave it. If you could mimic that all the way round, I think it would work better.. and show the toes of course.

I love the expression, and also the fact that his trousers look about two feet too long, and have been rolled up loads.. nice touch.. by you or his mother.

I like the montage as is, but could probably do with the lettering darkened slightly.. ooh, thought.. give the lettering a white drop shadow, just opaque enough to pronounce the letters more. It'd look great blown up to about 5' and hung on the wall of the local Tourist Information office (or the Canadian equivalent). Give 'em a ring, tell them we said so.

Cheers

Hi, and welcome..

you posted in the Announcements section about ideas for improving the PU club.. only problem is that only John and Matt can reply in that forum, being moderators. No problem if that's who you want ideas from, but if it's member wide, you may want to move it to another sub-forum, such as the General Chat.. BTW, I don't have any ideas.. yet!

Cheers
