Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you Hazel? There are a few of us in Sheffield. Also, AndrewA and myself will be in Tickhill (near Doncaster) this Sunday for the Cycle Racing Grand Prix which we are photographing, you are welcome to come, see link below:

These are all very nice John, well composed and exposed!

I think you will enjoy the K-3 for landscapes - it's my 'go to' camera for this sort of work. The only comment I would make is that the shadow detail needs lifting on some of them, this is easily done in post processing and contrary to reports from some others I have never found a problem in recovering shadow details from K-3 files.

It's a really nice image, now you have this you can progress to stage 2! Try getting some images of the birds perching in the shrubbery near to the feeders as this will produce a more natural result. There are several methods you could attempt:

- If you have a remote trigger, put the camera on a tripod pointing / focussed on a spot where you know the birds will perch and hide somewhere out of the way. This can get some fantastic close-up results but takes a lot of patience

- Set up a hide near the feeders

- Set up some feeders in your own garden, preferably hung from tree branches so that you get the birds in the trees

Good luck!

My DA L 55-300 is a belter of a lens, sharp as a knife and better than the Sigma 150-500 I had.

I would not sell mine, example reason below:

Nothing to criticise here Ken, it is a beautifully judged image, very impressive

I actually thought the processed look on these was intentional and as Nigel says I quite like the slightly surreal appearance. Apart from that I think you've done really well to capture these Carl, I don't think you would have expected them all to be pin sharp would you?

BBF is the way to go - more control, easier when you get used to it. Once ingrained you will never do it any other way.

Noise has gone but the definition has suffered badly; this is often the consequence of applying Noise Reduction. Best option is to avoid noise in the first place, I know that's not always easy but it should be the objective, especially with shots like this one.

It definitely would not be a WG for me. I've been very underwhelmed with the WG-3 we have, the exposure accuracy on it is terrible. I haven't held a MX-1 but it seems that almost everyone loves this camera, albeit the size is a bit on the hefty side.
