I got some pretty good results with the K-x and a Hoya R72 IR filter - it is particularly effective when shooting subjects like old buildings, castles and the like. The K-5IIs is not so good as it must have stronger IR filtering, but it is still usable.

See a shot below taken with the Hoya R72:

Very good set Nigel, these are different from your norm and all the better for it. I like the under-exposure approach, it has paid off in spades here.

Two superb shots to start off with Carl, I love them both. They remind me of shots that I might attempt to capture, the style is quite similar to my own, but I don't think any of mine are as good as these.

Brilliant stuff, you have a problem now in that you have set yourself a very high standard for the next 3 shots!

As an aside, the best 10 stopper I have used for lack of colour cast is the Haida 10 Stopper, which is also one of the cheapest! I would recommend this filter very highly, it is made of optical glass, not resin, and since acquiring it my Hitech 10 stopper has not been used at all.

If anything, the Haida gives a very mild warming effect, which is quite nice and not unnatural, but all colours in the original scene are preserved and it is easy to tweak the WB in post processing if required. I bought the slimline version of the Haida 10 stopper in 77m diameter specifically for use with the 12-24 and I use it with adaptor rings for lenses that have a narrower diameter. From memory, it cost me approximately £55, which for a 10 stopper of this quality is a bargain.

A lovely ending shot with #5 Andrew, again it has you trademarks stamped all over it, i.e. very sharp, great composition and colours, beautiful control over exposure. Thanks for posting these 5 excellent shots.

It's impossible to appreciate the resolution / quality of the images on this Forum, they look no different on here to any other shots due to the compression / re-sizing required.

Nevertheless I'm looking forward to seeing some more, even we can't see them in all their glory!

Hi Eddie

I don't know you, but from Carl's words it is clear you are a valued and respected friend and also that you really enjoy your photography. I would echo what Alistair said; if you can't manage a DSLR there are plenty of great compacts around that may help you to continue with your hobby, so that might be a way to go.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery.

That is stunningly beautiful Mark, a real eye-popper of an image. Did you light it with natural or artificial light?

The 1.4 works OK with the 55-300, but it is not an ideal combination as the focussing is affected and can be marginal depending on light conditions and max aperture at any given focal length. IQ is good though.

The TC is probably more suited to SDM lenses or constant wide aperture lenses like the DA*300, DA*60-250, 100 F2.8 Macro.
