To be honest 8x40 are usually recommended as being very good for wildlife and they are smaller and lighter than 10x50 which is another popular size. The 8x40 are ZCF style (Zeiss Centre Focussing) which might be the problem as these are a bit larger and heavier than other styles. It may be a case of having to spend a while gleaning the specifications of other 8x40 or 7x35 or something similar comparing size and weight...looking for something smaller and lighter. If I get time later i'll have a quick rummage online and see what i can find for you.
Lastly you need to consider your budget as the ZCF style generally are cheaper than the other styles comparing like for like. A small pair of binoculars with reasonably good quality lenses can be quite expensive...but there are exceptions.

Even prompted me to do a search on that Raynox to get some information about it. I like the idea of the expandable clip fit...very useful.

Kuwait City looks a bit like Blackpool on steroids!
As you say the camera is very versatile and has impressive optical performance.
