Nice to see images from this beautiful but troubled region...rarely visited from the UK.

Lovely colours...and yes I think autumnal leaf activity has started to arrive already.

These past few days in particular have seen lots of smaller than normal but very dry leaves from Beech trees start to cover our rear lawn.

The latest Pentax 'offering' said to be in production for release in next few months/next year turned out to be a MF DSLR?

Possibly a retro model I would assume if they were going to do that.

Also let's assume using K-Mount due to all the legacy lenses out there and new lenses would be cheaper to introduce.

Reason for question is, like many on here I do follow the US site, and some strong hints from there tending to hint at this outcome.
Does seem like a plausible route from what Pentax management have said in the past and wouldn't necessarily exclude further development of existing or recently discontinued FF/APS-C models.

Over to the floor...

Hi Patty,

thanks for your input...i'm always open to constructive criticism...one can't really advance as a photographer without it!

I see your point and understand your rationale.

Those two side-on shots I posted amongst the mainly front on ones were taken literally seconds after some of the front on shots and I was happy to shoot using the same settings as I didn't really have time to alter my settings...plus i was experimenting all afternoon using different shutter speeds as it was my first outing with the 300 + 1.4x converter combo. I took shots from as low as 1/200th sec up to 1/2000th second and everywhere in between (some more successful than others!)

Personal taste plays a part as well as I usually have a particular' look' I want to achieve before pressing the shutter.

You were right about the shutter speed on those two side-on shots though...bang on...1/1000th sec for both of them (they were taken about 4 seconds apart).

I've just looked through a few shots taken a short time after those two and come up with four taken at 1/500th second which I quite like.
Not as low as 1/400th but not far off. I did use the advertising boards in the background to partly do some of the spade work for me when trying to capture the effect of 'speed'.

Anyway...now that you've contributed to the site...stick around...the more people the better

Having had a Kawasaki VN 900cc cruiser in the past and loved it, I do so like all, stress all, of these images. I don't have a favourite, they are that good. And yes, I loved posing on my chrome master. (I'm an extremely sad person in that way.) Whilst these are serious players. (Sigh.)
Thanks very much for your generous comments...really appreciate them. I do have a lot of photographic interests in motorsport and aviation that were I starting from scratch i'd no doubt be guided down the 'conventional' Canikon route. I do really prefer Pentax DSLRs for their ergonomics, OVF and general robustness so I'll stick with them and aim to improve my technique to compensate for inferior AF.

During last friday's visit to Oulton saw hundreds of Canikons, Sony and the odd Olympus...but not one other Pentax! Felt a bit like an ambassador for the brand!

Thanks...I shot those from a position i'd normally use the 300mm for and crop where necessary.

These were taken just a few seconds after the same bike as a 'head on' shot...which is the reason I wanted the 400mm reach in the first place, so can't complain.

After looking at about 320 shots so far with the 1.4x converter attached i'd say my 'keepers' are probably closer to 20% than my initial thought of about 15%. With a bit more practice and possibly using my monopod should be able to increase this figure.

My shooting style is more 'sniper' than 'machine gun'...no more than 2 shots at a time so the less than ideal AF isn't so much of an issue for me as it could have been. I've a feeling I did take a few dozen shots using MF as well...yet to see those!

I'm very pleased with it, and i've yet to try it with my 100mm WR macro which would be my other main usage for it. I'll possibly try that out in a few days. Have a few other MF lenses as well i'd like to try with...i'll give my verdict on some other combinations if and when I have anything useful to contribute!

A few more which involved side to side movement rather than head on shots.

No cropping on any of these as they barely fit the frame as it is.

Was pleased with the overall sharpness, minimal tweaking required.

These were some of my final shots of the F900R group.
