Reading these posts shows me that perhaps I was losing sight of who I'm trying to please ....
Exactly - I get quite concerned at the number of people who ask for advice or the classic "does this "work?"" and get a very diverse range of conflicting responses - ultimately, if it works for you, then it works.

If we spent all our time following "rules" there'd be no room left for creativity, and if photography is one thing, it's a creative medium.

Lovely set!

Number 5 for me. I lived in Hayle for about a year and know that part of the county very well - the pink in the sky and the flowers make it for me

If trolling behind a screen is the only alternative to interacting with people in the real world then you don't really understand social media.

Firstly not everyone is healthy enough or able enough to get out and about in the physical world. secondly for my own experience of facebook I've got back in touch with people from all eras of my life, from school onwards. msot o them live all across the world and it isn't possible, for example, to nip to Thailand, Dubai or the USA to drop in for a cuppa and a chat.
Patronising in the extreme.

I'm not the one suggesting FB style features be introduced over here in PU land, but don't let that stop you using your scatter-gun

I'm sure FB has many wonderful qualities and seemingly it is more important to a large swathe of the population than speaking to each other. You know nothing about me so to suggest I don't understand social media shows your arrogance has not diluted over time. DougF8 would be the second to get my wished for "ignore" button used on them, but first place was reserved for you.

1. I'm unsurprised some people don't do facebook, I'm surprised when they don't have the mental agility to apply the principals of social networking to social networking sites. It smacks of a closed conservative mindset.

3. There is only one UK Pentax forum (currently) and I'd love it to become a bit more dynamic and interesting. This thread seemed to be about the forum becoming boring, a bit of a classified advert forum etc etc. I'm glad you are engaged in the thread and progressing the discussion in a positive and friendly way.
If I were to have one wish granted, it'd be the addition of an "ignore poster" button. You would be the second person I'd use it on.

A "general chat" forum will take ten minutes to set up and will instantly tidy all the boards up, leaving the photography areas for just that. Surely that is all the consideration it needs - it'll make working lives easier - a "no brainer" in my book...

Well now, the concept of a "like" seems to work quite well elsewhere. Hmmm Facebook for one?
I don't "do" Facebook and am happy to say that I've no idea how it works.

Another site allows you to like posts from other users. It makes you feel loved.
If you need the approval of your photographic peers to feel loved, there is something missing in your life.

Here we allow the OP to like posts in their thread but there is no way for users to like the post, other posts, threads, etc etc....
Life really is too short to worry about who likes what - if that is what matters most to you, perhaps you are in the wrong place?

I've only ever had Epson and have no complaints. I ventured into "Wilkinson's" recently for the first time and was amazed to see that they stock ink, both branded and 3rd party. The prices were also a very pleasant surprise

Post rating, karma points...

Apart from over-zealous modding, these are the two quickest ways to drive a forum into the ground...

The first shot looks 'handy'. The bedroom shot is great, we have a similar museum called Milestones, nice if they had some outdoor stuff.
There is a "Milestones" Living History museum in Basingstoke but it's all indoor. They are photographer friendly and umm... it's got a bar with real beer...

I've got the 170-500mm which took ages to find new, when I was looking no-one in the UK had stock or could tell me when they were likely to get any as "there wasn't much call, sir..." Eventually I found one in Germany (new) and snapped it up.

Yes, it's heavy, yes it's big, yes I need to tighten the mount every so often but NO, I won't part with it it. If you find one, grab it. You won't be disappointed with the results.
