Ray, have you actually clicked the link?
Yes, but that's irrelevant. I've asked before if people can give a bit of info so that we can make an informed choice as to whether we click or not. In the spirit of the post forum-war era I really had hoped people would have the courtesy to do so.

Apparently not.

Once again - can I ask for a bit of info about what it being linked to?

Stupidly, I expected better from one of the moderation team...

2,3 & 4 are the stand-outs for me, but I like them all.

Steve, yes, I think that small crop is stronger... There's many options of course, but I found the centre placement of the key point of interest just broke the rules really.
Bu**er the rules, Nigel - it's a brilliant image. Either works perfectly in my book - one for the list of "shots I wish I'd taken..."

One of the universes great mysteries. Just out of curiosity, is permission needed to use the Pentax logo/typeface?
Almost certainly - but I don't know if PU have permission.

That said, it would be pretty churlish of any brand owner to come over all precious about the use of a logo or mark in a situation like this, where everyone either has or is thinking of buying their products. I could see that changing if

i. The content became detrimental to the brand
ii. There was a swing towards competitors getting undue prominence
iii. Someone was seen to be making a profit from the use or implied association
iv. There was a change in "policy" at the brand owner.

I'm sure Pentax (Richo) know it's there but have turned a blind eye, given the relationship it has with it's fanbase.

Blimey, that seems to be a high number of (hitherto) regular posters...

I think the recent upheaval shows that the membership would like to see some change and it would appear that the owners might be doing something to facilitate this.

I don't think the forum would survive another "civil war"; hopefully lessons have been learned on all sides. Ultimately, PU need the members otherwise they won't get the advertising revenue.

People power, I think it's called

Having returned from a week and a half away I find the forum has suffered rather in terms of content and activity recently.

What I find is not really an awful lot going on, a surprising number of banned members, some clear attempts at mischief making and really just a bad taste in the mouth. It feels like the aftermath of a skirmish, a real lowpoint for this place and a shame.
Who's been banned, then?

Beg or blag a track/paddock pass

Failing that, there are some high banks where you can zoom over fences/crowds but that will mean lugging lots of kit and potentially a tripod. Things used to be far more relaxed, but since H&S and all the media rights became so sewn up, it's really no fun any more.

Having now learned that the press centre shot was effectively untouched and that you used a hefty stopper, I would suggest the effect along the roof line is heat haze.

The popped #1 is lovely, I'd be tempted to mess around with all sorts of variations on the theme, but then I would...

Removing the spectators from #2 has lifted it no end, as well. A great set!

If I've got shots that have nothing to give them a date, I'll tend towards a B&W finish. 1 & 3 certainly fall into this category and look fantastic. 2 is borderline on dating so would probably remain in colour if they were my shots. 4 works well in an "ancient & modern" way but again I'd have finished in colour. I'm also in agreement with John, not sure what/why you've done what you have to the glass and nosing on the press centre, but it does no favours.

I'm curious to see if 1 or 3 would lend itself to a bit of colour popping?
