Leave them alone and they'll go home! The more you scrub at camera screens and lenses the more damage you do! You should see the state of the gear of the other press snappers when I go out on jobs-they don't worry about an inch of dust-it's only the amateurs who worry!

I did teaching at evening class for several years until I went to the Philippines to get married ( for the THIRD time - Glutton for Punishment!)in 1995,then on return found I had LOST all the work to a bloke who knew the new Principal-he was IN-I was OUT ! I asked the students how they would like it-would they like 'practical'demos first OR 'theory'notes first- they all opted for the theory first so I went through lots of blackboard notes and slide shows, explaining the workings of cameras, what is exposure, composition, how to do macro etc etc then second term went into practical sessions. It was amazing that when I said 'Bring your cameras to take photos'very many of them didn't turn up when they knew they had actually to USE their cameras!
It's the SAME in my Camera Club- on Practical nights they will just sit around chatting and it's the Devil's Own Job to get them up to TAKE PHOTOS even when I bring all my studio lights or macro gear etc etc for them to use all FREE! Wish I had had all that gear to use when I was a Beginner - I would have appreciated the opportunity!

Yes:but I bought an ES in JAPAN in 1973 in YEN had to pay duty+purchase tax at Heathrow on return-I think it worked out at £138 but I sold it to a Club member who collected Pentaxes and he wanted the Japanese home-market ES (I had the original box+instructions)for £85 so didn't loose much AND it was faulty-the CDS metering was a problem with memory-if you took a photo under very bright light then suddenly took one under dull light the exposure was out badly-I ended up using my Weston meter and putting it on manual settings for my Press work.

Don't throw the film! I use outdated all the time but keep it in a 'fridge-I was given a load of the same film as you have frpom a local newspaper- I rate it lower at 500 ASA and it comes out fine-I have used 400ASA Fuji Superia print film in Morocco on holiday dated 2002, rated it at 200ASA and results were fine---- here are a couple from the 400

After many many years of camera club membership and having my photos critiqued I am immune to comments - like the good ones, look at the bad ones and act if I agree, otherwise, hard cheese mates!

I am an almost retired professional and I use pentax K10D for my local newspaper jobs-the other snappers use gear provided by their papers. I stick to the 18-55mm kit lens and use my older screw and bayonet lenses if necessary-wonderful!
