Thanks for the help, but I can't seem to find a 39 --> 42 adapter on the SRB Griturn's site. Probably just a case of not being able to see the wood for all the trees !

You've read my mind about finding lens bargains. It won't be too long before the car boot sale season starts again around Stockholm. In the past I have only looked for K-mount stuff, but in the future I'll be widening my search.

Cheers,

/Ian

Can anybody recommend a decent quality 39mm --> 42mm adapter ?

I have not thought about it before, but after reading some posts on the forum I have seen there are a few people here who like to experiment with older Russian lenses. I have a couple of old 39mm Jupiter lenses from my late fathers old Russian Zorki and Fed cameras. It might be fun mounting them the K10D and seeing what they can do. Neither have been used for 25 or 30 years, so perhaps its time they came out to play again.

I have a Jupiter-8 50/2 - tiny little thing and a Jupiter-11 135/4 in chrome.

I already have a genuine Pentax 42mm --> K adapter, so any recommendations for a 39mm --> 42mm adapter gratefully received.

Cheers,

/Ian

Here is some interesting information comparing the merits of the 16-45 and 16-50.

My son is now 3 going on 4. Last year we bought him a digital fisher price camera and some of the results have been surprisingly good. Its been fun seeing the world through the eyes of a 3 year old. I think it will be a while before we buy him his first proper camera though, unless Pentax decide to make an armour plated optio soon.

To be honest I know one day I would like to own an example of the FA* 80-200. Just now I don't have a logical argument to justify such a purchase, or indeed the funds, but one day I will have both ! The dreaded LBA showing itself again I'm afraid.

Anyway that's why the Tokina 80-200 intrigued me a little, as I had never heard of it before and that got me wondering if it was the same under the skin as the FA* 80-200. Now I know its not, I can forget about it.

Thanks for the help.

Now here is a lens I have never seen before. A second hand Tokina ATX-Pro AF 80-200mm f/2.8 in a Pentax mount.

Does anybody know if under the skin this is the same beast as the legendary Pentax FA* 80-200mm f/2.8 ? Perhaps one of the fruits of the so called "Pentax - Tokina special relationship" ?

I'd love to buy it, but have zero funds. Any other forum members tempted ?

Cheers,

/Ian

Don't think lens motor failure is exclusive to Pentax. I have two friends with Nikon systems, and each have experienced a lens motor failure.

In our Pentax world I doubt the screw drive is going to disappear anytime soon. If the kit 18-55 / 50-200 appear in SDM only form, then perhaps the writing might be on the wall. Until that day though I doubt it.

The comments on the now rather out of date stans photography site link were always very positive about this lens, both in M and A version.

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

300 mm f/4.0 M*
Jens Bladt - It's a great lens. . . . The lens itself is . . . excellent (sharpness, contrast).

Texdance - . . .I liked the lens, but it was simply too difficult to focus on fast moving objects . . .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

300 mm f/4.0 A*
Fred - . . . best lightweight hand-holdable long telephoto there is in all of God's creation.

Bob Walkden - . . . The A* is easily handholdable . . . the quality is staggeringly good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with all the comments. It is fantastic on both film and digital.

In Sweden the 12-24 has a list price of 13,295 kr (source www.scandinavianphoto.se). The Tokina 12-24 (essentially the same lens)in a Nikon mount costs 4,995 kr.

Its so daft. I could buy a Nikon D90 together with Tokina 12-24 for just a little more than the Pentax 12-24.

I really do think Pentax need to review their pricing. The sooner the better as I want a 12-24.
