That's the one that came bundled with the LX 2000 special edition (basically an LX in silver). Don't usually see them seperated so I wonder what happened to the camera..?

Rare?
At that price it should be at least extinct.

Ohhhhh innit lovely! But not approximately £1,438.85 worth of lovely. I especially like the Ltd style lens cap.

It's the A version, judging by the shape (and the fact that I can just make out the A button!)
Silly money for a manual focus 50mm - it can't be that much better than the f1.7!

It would look nice on the special edition K7, but that is silly money.

I used to have F50/1.7 and for couple of days A50/1.7 and now keep K55/1.8 along the K50/1.2.
To be honest, any of the slower variants (they share the optical formula... so no surprises here) are/were sharper until 2.4/2.5 at f2.8 they become roughly the same.
The main reason for f1.2 is... well f1.2 and 8 blades for smoother bokeh.
I'm not saying f1.2 is a soft lens. Considering the aperture, it's actually surprisingly good. And this coupled with FOV on APSC, very good MF and great OOF wide open just makes it excellent lens on it's own!
my conclusion: you can't get closer to 77ltd equivalent on APSC than 50/1.2....

Interesting that you mention the K 55mm f1.8 - I have that and the A 50mm f1.7. The A 50mm is obviously much easier to use but there's just something about the 55mm that other lenses struggle to match. Dangermouse wrote:

I just don't see why people are willing to pay massive sums to gain .5 of an f stop over the common variant (or .2 of an f stop over the slightly-saner-priced f1.4 versions). If I saw one cheaply (say the urban legend charity shop scenario) I'd pounce on it, but I won't spend over £100 on a manual non-telephoto lens.

I jumped on my K50/1.2 the next morning after I saw in on the web. Paid £255 shipped to me. K55/1.8? I paid £59 shipped from Ireland.
I'm glad I have both.. they are quite a different lenses IMO.
And with the rule of not spending over £100 for non tele manual lens... well I wouldn't get you too far IMO
Looking at London prices, there is only handful of SMC lenses to fit under £100...

The only lens I have bought lately for more than £100 was my K 15mm f/3.5. My S-M-C Tak 28, M 100, K 200, K 135, K 35, S-M-C Tak 200 were all well under £100. Since the price of new Pentax lenses went from just about affordable (to me that is) to unaffordable I have been more than content to pick up older lenses from here or ebay. The prices are definitely on the increase though.Looking at London prices, there is only handful of SMC lenses to fit under £100...
I bought my K 50mm f/1.2 for £150 with a camera attached. (I was actually looking for the camera and was delighted to see the lens attached to it. Sadly so were a few other bidders.) I bought it with the intention of selling it on at a profit as I couldn't see the point of paying all that extra money (£90 more than I paid for an A series 50mm f/1.4) for half a stop. Having had it and used it, however, I am rather loathe to let it go. Story of my life!
Old Polaroid anyone?

Here is a question for you all.
Old Uncle Fred dies and you get to rummage through his camera collection and there is an LX 2000 Ltd Edition with this lens. Do you (a) sell it (b) keep it in its presentation box and admire it now and again or (c) use the thing and enjoy it?
Head says (a), heart says (c).

(b) for the camera and (c) for the lens - but only with great care and never in the rain.Do you (a) sell it (b) keep it in its presentation box and admire it now and again or (c) use the thing and enjoy it?
Then in 10 years when prices have reached astronomical levels (a) for the whole lot.

I take many photos of unboxing it, then load a film and start using it. James May has the right idea on "collectible" items - use them carefully and enjoy them rather than stuff them in a case! Here is a question for you all.

Edit, lens prices:
I paid £8.50 for my K 55mm f1.8, nothing wrong with it other than the usual paint scuffs. My A 50mm f1.7 was £42 and my M 28mm f3.5 was £50, all on ebay. The only lenses I have spent over £50 on were my K 120mm f2.8 (£65) and my A 200mm f4 (£99) from a camera shop website.
