Tony, I agree with Dr Mhuni because when people enter a competition they expect some feed back from the judge. Allowances are made for those who feel intimidated at having to compose judgements, expecially when English is not their first language. Very brief comments are acceptable and the least we expect is that 2nd and third and possibly commended pictures are listed along with the winner.
However I admit its easier for me than many of you - I'm retired and I have more time on my hands.(Don't tell Irene).
Two of my friends on this site, who shall remain nameless, have told me they won't enter the competitions because of the danger of winning. Believe me they are both more than capable of winning. One of them came second a while ago.
Now I'm looking forward to Dr Mhuni's competition - perspective compression. Andrew won't have any problems expressing his views on each picture.

I got the point about Bittern and Sir Vincent Raven. I bet Kris is chuffed about all the puns when all he wanted was for us to make serious comments about his brilliant photography.

No its not too dark. I'm a sucker from REAL black in mono pics. The bits in your picture that are supposed to be bright ARE bright. The blackness around them makes them stand out all the more. The sharp contrast gives this picture real bite. I easily get bored bored with grey mono pictures that have no true blacks or whites in them.

Powerful stuff this Paul. I agree with all the above comments about emotion. I'm glad you are sending pictures of these homeless people to Boris and I wonder if you've had any response from his office and what their reaction is.
Keep up the good work,

You've caught a fantastic expression on the tiger's face Alan. I agree with Gareth, give it a crop and tweak in levels or contrast or something when you get home to the PC and this picture will have real bite.

I does look a little soft Graham but the compresion in Photobucket may be to blame. The quality of the light in the photo is excellent which makes it a very appealing picture. I wonder if you worked a little on the contrast of the mud bank in the foreground and tweaked the glint on the boats whether it it would give the picture added impact.

Whatever you did to improve the sky ect the finished image works really well for me. I enjoyed looking at the quality of the sky, stubble field and tortured branches of the tree. And yes, Ithink ti works well in black and white, I just can't imagine it in colour.

My favourite is the Cimetiere de Montmatre in Paris where many notable citizens have been buried for the past 150 years, including poets, writers, composers, artists, engineers, academics etc, etc. I spent a very ghoulish couple of hours there with my Pentax last summer.
