Just about right to my eyes. Very crisp, sharp and dramatic.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I guess it has to be to your taste really, but I find it unnaturally dark.

I had been on Orkney for about 8 days, and every day was stormy.

I was getting the ferry home and spotted this image.

In colour, the sky, water and the houses all seem apart.

I thought if I convert to B&W, and darken the sky and water, there would be a relationship between all elements ?

Just about right but I expect it looks better if it's bigger as the density of the tones will be less (if that means anything much).

A bit dark, but that makes it all northern and dramatic. I also very much like the composition. And doesn't the clear sky work? I usually like nice clearly defined clouds but this is better without.

Well done, sir!

Galoot - as a matter of interest, did you use a tripod? the depth of quality is impressive.

My first instinct was that it was a bit dark. Though having read your rationale, John, perhaps you have got this right.

A really nice b'n'w from someone who I normally associate with great colour!

Love it! It is dark but I don't think it's too dark. Fantastic detail and crispness. Really great shot.

No tripod Mike, I had about 1/2 an hour to wait for the ferry home, so just went walkabout round the harbour.

I think the Pentax 17-70mm is a fantastic lens

My first reaction was also: Isnt it a bit dark?
But here it fits. It's powerful.
I really like it.
