Thanks for the comments Haris, Derek, David, Gwyn and Rick.
Haris: The last one sticks out from the rest because its not strictly an abstract.
Gwyn: I too found some of the shapes quite sensuous.
Derek: I must try No.4 upside down, that's the joy of abstracts, you can play around with them.
David, I don't recall seeing a big sculpture by Henry Moore, with or without a rope fence, but the site is so huge I'm sure we just scraped the surface on Friday and its going to take another visit to discover more.
Rick, The verdigris and blue sky appealed to me too.

Thanks for the comments Peter, danofmk and Bill. It was fun looking for something a little different when doing architectural abstract photography.

Windows in Newcastle University's new Urban Sciences Building in the city's Gallowgate district has distinctive windows with a complicated network of coloured lines depicting the inter connectivity of the World Wide Web.
This week I've tried to interpret this from the outside looking in and the inside looking out.

This week's competition is open as to subject matter the theme being 'shooting against the light' or to give it its posh name 'Contre Jour.' The topic can be anything of your choice which hopefully will encourage a wide ranging entry but the shooting method is what I will be judging the the competition on.
The usual rules apply, pictures must be shot on Pentax cameras or their closely related clones, shot new for this competition or trawled from your favourite archives. Entries close midnight Sunday March 17, British time.

I might have joined you at York Neil but I think if I had the opportunity I'd rather go to Ribblehead Viaduct to photograph Union of South African on its way to Carlisle. I haven't got a photo of an A4 at Ribblehead yet, but I already have loads of both UoSA and the Duchess at York.

First class David. Like everyone else I vote the first one top of the league but there's quality and wide variety in all these images.

The great days of local newspapers are over, most are struggling to exist with just skeleton staffs and rely on readers sending them images. If they use one of your pictures it will not be doing a staff photographer out of a job, those jobs have already gone.
As for copyright - that always remains with the photographer unless of course you are a pro photographer employed by the newspaper company.
