Dan may relate his experience of a shattered filter severely scratching the front lens element when it broke on dropping the lens.
That wasn't me (Mattmatic I believe, and I think Gartmore knows of another), but I too use hoods for protection.

I do use filters, most often a polariser, but only when needed, and I use the Cokin type filter system, which I have found to be an excellent 'bumper' when I dropped my camera with the adapter, holder and filter attached. The adapter and holder bent and took all the impact, camera and lens was fine.

I think there may be a clue here. When you say close the page that implies that you have left the site, so when you return the buttons have reset. The button means "new posts since last visit" and not "unread posts" so when you read one you need to read the rest before you leave, otherwise they will indeed disappear.

Is this what is happening?
I often find that I might come to the forum and several threads are highlighted as new, I look at one, click the 'General Chat Forum' link (or whatever) and all the green squares have gone, it just seems to forget that I haven't looked at these other new ones. Then later, it might decide that some of the ones I have looked, are worth looking at again, and it will show these ones with a green square. It really is quite random.

So, what is the advantage of going shutter priority - especially when you are shooting still life
No idea! This would be the perfect time for Av, so I'd be interested in any answers to that one too.

I'm far more concerned with depth of field than shutter speed 95% of the time for the shots that I do, I can't remember the last time I used Tv mode.

I was in Cameraworld in Chelmsford today, and they have an ex-demo K20D for £450 if anyone's interested. Didn't ask about warranty or anything, just noticed the price.

Congratulations to you both - but, this is your honeymoon right? What on earth are you doing coming in the chatroom?!? Surely there are 'other things' you should be doing!
