As I understood the original post, the main idea was to show what could be 'pulled back' (washed out sky / dark shadows) from an original raw image.
Even if the image is presented as a untouched JPEG a great deal of that information will be lost and it becomes as you say like a ePHOTOZINE exercise.

I take your point. I have always believed that it is better and in the long term cheaper to fix a problem at source through good design and process control, than to put money into a repairs and return service.

Before this discussion becomes too philoshophical, maybe I should call time. We can always discuss this over a cuppa at the meet next week.

Just a thought, but what do you all think about scheduling some time to sell/trade surplus kit?

Pentax are Japanese and really have very few QC issues when you think of the huge number of units produced.

They have never had a complete lens recall like Canon have.
John, I would like to repeat that I am not Pentax bashing here.

Having worked with several Japanese companies I know how good their process control can be and I feel that Pentax have not quite got it right yet.

Large volumes represent the opportunity to refine processes down to the nth degree, to the extent that faulty product becomes almost non existent.

I want Pentax to succeed and get back to the force that they once were. I believe that they have a great opportunity to redefine the standard for the industry in reliability and service and in so doing win a new army of users, in a way that they did with the M series and LX.

Referring back to my earlier car reference and your Canon example. I want my car to be better than a Lexus, not a 1970's Lada

I do wonder sometimes if the QC department at Pentax is managed by ex British Leyland staff. The reported camera and lens quality escapes are a concern and very damaging.

No matter how much we love the brand, these sorts of things should not be happening and it is no excuse to say that Canikon are no better.

Come on Pentax, start thinking like Japanese, tighten up your processes and prepare to be amazed at how quality improves and the bottom line improves as product returns become a thing of the past.

Panagor or Vivitar Macro Converter: which are the differences? The panagor isn't pka?
Vivitar comes in PK and PKA flavours. Vivitar is a 7 element multi coated design. Don't know about the Panagor.

I read his blog with interest. The claim that Pentax would need to design an entire new lens range for a FF camera, just does not seem to sit right.

Has anyone else noticed that many of the latest lenses are reported to show no sign on vignetting on 35mm film cameras?

Was a redesign for a larger sensor the reason behind the long delay of a DA60-250, the fact that the DA15 is only F4 and the temporary suspension of the teleconvertor? The DA16-45 was to be phased out, but now seems to have been reintroduced, any coincidence that it becomes FF compatible at around 22mm?

Accepting that CA might be considered a problem in some eyes with the original FA limiteds, I cannot belief that resolution is an issue in 'real world' use.

Personally I think the more likely scenario is a slighly larger sensor, 1.3 crop square or otherwise.

Anyone know how the DA 55-300 looks on a 35mm camera? Its my birthday soon and it is/was on my list. May after wait until after the 21st before I can satisfy my LBA

I am not a 100% sure from your description, but I believe this is a macro focussing tele convertor. I have the Vivitar version, which when used with a 50mm F1.4 lens becomes a 100mm F2.8 capable of producing 1:1 macro images.

Not sure about compatibility with the Tamron

Be aware that when using a step up ring that the ring, plus filter may not fit inside the fit inside the lens hood. I have used a 52-58 plus polarising filter on the DA 18-55.
