Well done Hyram, interesting theme and good judging. I had an idea but then couldn't get the right circumstances so I had to sit this one out for a change.

I'm using 3.0.10 as well and it crashed...

So no luck here with the slideshow. Apart from that I don't really like sites that need a special plug-in installed.
I wouldn't have done that would I not know you.

What a grand opening that was (even if the resubmission means it's the second contribution in the thread). That's what I call
a lucky shot. This squirrel is certainly a very nice specimen and I like the slight blur in the paws from the movement.
And there is some fruit in the picture. Now, from the surface of the shot taken up by fruit it certainly is not a fruit shot.
But the impact that it has on the picture is much bigger than the shear area. They certainly brighten up the whole shot and the
colour contrast is great! Well done!
Malo - Orange unzipped
Wow, brilliant idea! Simple but effective and with long lasting impact. On closer inspection I think you submitted it early to not
let it eat up your time. It's not perfect and you know that. But does it matter that it is not perfect?
I'm a bit intrigued on why you took the same half of the orange on both sides... The zipper looks great in the lower regions,
a bit less so higher up. I'm sure that one long and dark winter evening you will come back to this and finish it up to perfection.
On balance a very creative and very good entry!
MGraley - Dream on
Nice idea. Is that a MC? And is that a real price sticker on there? (Just had a look on Amazon; yes, you can get MC's still and
the price, while a tad on the high end, seems not to be unrealistic.)
I like the ageing banana dreaming of a fresh tangerine. I feel, however, you could have put more effort into lighting of the
scene. f5.6 and ISO800 does suggest that you didn't want to get the tripod out. With a smaller aperture the top of the banana would
have been in focus too.
Hyram - Fresh Orange - Poster Art
A fresh look indeed. I like the composition (including the frame) and the light. Nothing left in the dark, nothing overexposed,
great detail in the skin. The posterization doesn't look contrived (though I would really like to see the photo without that effect).
I can well imagine this hanging as a poster on the wall.
Tony-O - Lemon and Pine Fruit in a basket
A pleasing arrangement that works for me. I like the brown/yellow contrast, the structure of the basket and the depth of field (I have
to admit, though, that I had problems with it at first, the foreground basket being pin sharp and the further lemon being not sharp
at all; however, it grew on me). Apart from the colour contrast I think the yellow diagonal makes me like this picture.
I would have cropped a little closer on the top, this wouldn't change the image much, though.
Dr. Mhuni - Addis Grocers
Another wonderful entry from down south again. I like it! It reminds me of similar stalls I've seen in India or Thailand. The lighting
is great and you did well to capture this with high ISO and long exposure and I can imagine that this was a tricky shot. The stall keepers
seem not to mind you at all.
The variety of fruit, of course, is what one would expect; it looks exotic to us, but I guess it's staple diet in Addis.
The icing on the cake (or is it the cream on the fruit) for me is the Merc in the background in the dark and the figure leaning over
(to the drivers window?).
I think you succeeded here to capture the mood of the moment.
mikew - pears
Well, it is simple, reduced to the core. But it works, I think not least because of the excellent image quality.
It's sharp, it's well exposed, I like it.
hefty1 - summer fruit
Good composition, but you made your life difficult with the lighting. It would perhaps have been a bit easier using
a reflector next to the camera (or, of course, a bit of flash). You did well, though, without using either, the texture of
the main players is kept throughout. Yes, there are slightly blown areas but they don't bother me.
The left orange could be a tad sharper, but I appreciate that closing down the aperture would have compromised the wonderful background.
Galoot - Fruit ? Only if you insist !!!
A scottish fruit theme and a real Galoot! I'm surprised that you did find a fruit when there was so much of Whisky waiting for you.
The background plus Whisky would be a nice arrangement for a Whisky ad (though the bottle would be filled a bit more for that), but the
contrast of the green Kiwi against the reds of the rest is making it a fruit picture.
I think this would have been even better with a bit of careful lighting. I imagine the whole pic a bit darker and some light on the Kiwi
slice and on the glass from the left (this warm spot on the bottle label where the light shines through the glass is giving a taste of
what it could look like).
Clever idea, well executed but leaving room for improvement.
pschlute - "Orange" on the orange tree
Another clever idea. And another nice colour contrast. Good composition, you placed the "orange" nicely in the frame.I can't help it, though,
I'm somehow distracted by the hole in the "orange". The softening works very well for this image.
This was another round with high quality entries and I would love to give commendations to all of them. However, I see that that would
be pointless... Here are the results:
First: Hyram - Fresh Orange - Poster Art
Second: Dr. Mhuni - Addis Grocers
Third: Judith Ann - Nuts about fruit
It was very close and the highly commendeds are following closely: Malo, mikew, Galoot.
Creativity prize: Malo1961
So it's over to you, Hyram.
Greetings from a lonely hotel room,
Prieni

I try to find fault with this shot but you are making it rather hard...
