Well, that depends on where you are. I am not allowed to publish pictures of clearly identifiable people without their consent. Exceptions are persons of public interest (celebrities and wanna be celebs, politicians etc.) and crowds (such as in a football stadium or demonstration).
One of the reasons why I have to sit out this fortnightly competition (unless I come across an interesting and willing individual or get the consent after having taken the picture). I could legally take those shots, I just couldn't publish them (i.e. submit them for the competition).

If there are no legal obstacles, Andrew's shot would be acceptable to me.

Tim,

I remember the portrait from voting. The reeds are fantastic, looks like drawn. The church brings back memories of Pillars of the Earth and the magnificent cathedrals of Winchester and Salisbury.
For me the third one is the weakest of the three (but still a strong entry!).

I also check too often, maybe a bit more understandable since some of the entries are sitting there for more than a month now. Currently have a dozen entries waiting. If I had submitted the max. possible (10/week) I would have 50 sitting there and waiting. Usually I put a few in and wait until decision time before I put in the next lot...

Great image Kris! There are lots of sunset pictures around (even if this is a rising sun), but this one stands out. It's not only the sky that is fantastic, the water is wonderful as well.

Hyram, excellent judging! I wonder how much of that stuff you had to look up. It's not only a good read on the photo judgements but also on the bits about the icons themselves.

In an ideal world I would have looked for a 911 in a nice setting (Aston Martins are a real pain to find around here Congrats, Paul, on your choice of car!) I thought about our Porsche design coffe maker for a moment, but while it is good and nice enough design it isn't a design icon.
I guess my entry is borderline on that as well, Apple always has excellent design, but I guess the two items in my entry don't quite qualify as icons.

Congratulations to GlynM on that magic bulb image. It certainly is an iconic shape, I would still have my doubts on the icon part. A worthy winner it is without any doubt.

Good choice of competition theme, it brought out many interesting submissions. So well done on that as well!

Well this winter is a bit stronger than the last few years. I only live here since 2005 and this is the strongest winter since.
I think the last time that we had ice like that in Rostock was in 2003 (incidentally my wife and I were in Rostock that winter and I have some old shots with ice on the coast).

I do remember another winter a good while back when I still lived in Kiel, a bit more to the west. The Kiel fjord was frozen then and that was the first time I was walking on the Baltic.

Andrew, that is a very nice landscape and the weather does look fine! I'm sure once the big thaw sets in we will have some scenery like that around.

It was a bit warmer today, just below freezing. I took the opportunity to go down to the river to take some shots of the pancake ice.

Thanks Andrew! The air certainly was sharp that day, felt like cutting into my ears and cheeks.
Much milder today, just below freezing. Good chance to go out and take some more pictures (see new thread).

Make it mandatory and everyone will put a location in. Is it the true location? You'll never know. (You know, some people lie on the internet:shock

I think it's up to everyone to make the decision how much or little information they want to share. Let's not make more rules than necessary.

Depends on what software you use. I had a quick try earlier today of the taste collection for SilkyPix. There was something similar in there.

The Nik filters are another option.

Well done Rob!

I remember seeing two of them in voting and found both deserve to be in.

I got one in recently, a lot of others are still in limbo, some of them for over one month. The one that made it in was also waiting for over one month.

In the voting it seems to me that quality has improved over time, many of those shots I really like.
