No spring here, yet

Following on from Peter's thread I thought I may show some more winter pics from here.
We just have some more snow so I might get out and grab a few more tomorrow.

This is Warnemuende seen from the West

You are getting good mileage from those groynes. All excellent photos but the groynes I like the most. K.

Lovely shots, on the subject of favourites I agree with Aiki

The image of the Groynes is my favourite too, but waaaaaaaay too cold for me. Brrrrrr.

Nice series Ralph.

I like the kitschy one - is it really so kitsch?, not to my eye - and the groynes. Love the lights in the distance in the latter - they really add the finishing touch.

1's pretty nice too - though my instinct is that the reason why I don't rate it as highly as those above is because there's maybe a bit much space in the top left (though the star/plane? does partly help the balance). The pp-ing though is - as always - top notch!

Not so keen on 3. I can't find anything in the image which really draws me in. But then when the other three look like this I wouldn't worry about it.

Great shots, as always, they really portray winter in an artistic way. If I had to name a favourite it would be the icy groyne, the shapes are fantastic. And I like the lights out to sea - are they rigs, ships or some sort of navigation beacons?

PS Just noticed I've now reached 500 posts. Still a long way to go before I get near the totals of marathon men like John Riley, George Lazarette, Mannesty etc.

Thanks all!

Congratulations, David, on post #500!

The lights in the background of #4 are navigation buoys, showing the way into the harbour entrance (they look really fab on a quiet evening, never came round to take a photo, though).

Andrew: Yes, it is a star (or rather a planet, I believe) trying to balance the big hotel on the other side in #1. That hotel is the only high rise building, no planning permission for anything above four floors is given now. That big hotel was built in the former GDR and served many politicians and business people from around the world when visiting this part of the country. Over the years it has become the town's landmark. The shot demonstrates how dominant it is in the view of Warnemuende.

I'm not worried about your comments on #3, I can understand your reservations. Still, I do like it somehow.

Oh Prieni, The colours of the first two...particularly the first one. I'm sure the air is sharper, cleaner and less hazy that in our limpid climes.

Wunderbar! Or something...

Well done,

Andrew
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew! The air certainly was sharp that day, felt like cutting into my ears and cheeks.
Much milder today, just below freezing. Good chance to go out and take some more pictures (see new thread).

Lovely as usual Prieni I would love to have your handle on colours. The groyne shots is especially excellent (as were the previous groyne shots). It's also great to be able to say 'groyne' so often, what a fine word
