Very nice work as usual. Hard to pick a favourite...

Excellent picture of one of my favourite subjects. I like the light, it really makes this a dramatic shot!

As I had so many shots to choose from for this weeks competition I thought I put a little collection of some alternatives here...

Cosmin,

overall I do understand what Martin is getting at and I trust that you see it as an honest critique of a fan of your work.
These are far too many for a detailed C&C on each of them. I think many of the pictures suffer from the post processing (e.g. 21 the area of the sky on the right above the trees has obviously been lightened and doesn't fit the colour of the sky in the middle; trees look artificially brightened. #5 the area between the cables in the front pylon (or whatever they are called) looks darkened and doesn't fit the rest; the upper sky area looks a bit darkened as well)
#1 would have been wonderful without the burned out areas.
Good that you saved #23 for last, I love that one

George,

difficult to fare better this time round (as I checked the #11 which was the one I won )
As for the critique under each pic I agree. And I would put even more load on the judge (from that you can see that I don't win often) and ask that these individual comments are put all together in one post at the competition level. (I wrote that in the competition thread already but as I said then I'm good at cut 'n paste).

My condolences too Liam. It's a testing time but the usual walk of life to loose your parents sooner or later.
I wish you and your family lots of strength.

Just to be clear, I meant it in the context of unwritten rules.

Martin.
And where is it written that we didn't have that unwritten rule : Maybe we have to write them all down

I hate to gang up on Stephen but I have to agree as well.
Who's ganging up on Stephen? It was Martin who voiced the opinion that we might consider INTRODUCING (i.e. in future) an extra rule that the winner/judge has to write critiques for each entry. I think even that does not constitute an explicit criticism of Stephen.

Chris' and Lilly were trying to encourage critique from people who might think they are not expert enough to voice an opinion (at least that's how I read it). (BTW: If critics were experts they wouldn't need to make a living out of criticising other peoples work...)

As for Martin's suggestion of the "extra rule": I'm not sure we need to introduce new rules. So far it has worked fine and this thread will be a "warning" to future judges that a lot of fuss is created by not doing your homework. So I'm sure it will continue to work fine in general and an exception here or there doesn't hurt.

I collect angels
Nice hobby, I think SWMBO (the only angel in my collection) wouldn't like me to take that one up

It's quite amazing what you find when you zoom in to some of your shots. This certainly is a prime example. When I saw the first one up there I thought that the "rays" from the eye to the hands look cool. But after looking at the second one and going back to the first, this is hillarious! Good catch!
