Artistic licence for me.
I'm not sure why, but it does look better flipped.
I see what you mean and I think it is because in The West we read from left to right and expect our images to do likewise.
Someone from Japan or China might feel the opposite ?

However, I agree with most of the comments that I prefer to generally leave things as they are, as a true record.

I've used various AA rechargeables in my Kr, and K50 but found that 3rd party D-Li109 equivalents are quite reliable and similar price.
Now that I have a K70 I can't use AA's any more so I looked for more D-Li109 's and found a DSTE USB charger plus two batteries for about £15 on Amazon. These seem perfectly OK and the USB charger means I can now even recharge in the car if the need arises.

I downloaded the software.
It installed without problem but will NOT recognise K70 dng files !
I checked their list of supported cameras and although the K50 and K1 are listed the K70 (or KP) are not.

Why are K70 dng files so different ?

That's a lot better and you can now see that shake probably by not holding the camera steady enough has taken the edge off the original. It could be the SR mechanism, but it's unlikely. At 1/250th it's better to leave SR off. It was originally intended for around 1/30th sec.

That's an interesting point you make there Algi !

Does this mean that I've been doing things wrong all this time as I never turn SR off even though I mainly use 1/250 or faster ?

I'd be grateful for any other comments from everyone, on this topic ?

Many thanks for the comments, Nigel. I probably go along with you with the choice of shots.

The clarity and sky are, of course, thanks to your help when I was struggling with RAW files and you enlightened me on the use of PDCU4.
Nowadays I use PSE 11 and it's in-built Adobe Raw to adjust the RAW files, watching both the image and the histogram.
I've found that reducing the Highlights and increasing the Whites does wonders for dull cloudy skies ! (After some adjustment to Clarity and Contrast)

Thanks again

Many thanks, Peter.

The other thing that impressed me at Dixter was the meadow - I've never before seen so many wild orchids together.
I'm told they are Green Winged Orchids. Here is a shot of the meadow and a close-up of the orchids :-

Great Dixter, in East Sussex, is now a Trust which maintains the buildings and runs training courses for gardeners. It's history is summarised on a display board shown in Shot 1. (All images taken hand held using a K70 with Sigma 18-250mm)

The entrance to the house. The oldest part is to the right with Lutyens extension to the left of the tall chimneys. The Yeomans Hall moved here from Benenden is behind the left side. The lean of the porch is because there were no foundations - the original buildings were just supported on large wooden planks !

This place is a must for keen gardeners and they have a nursery with plant sales and lots of exotic varieties that I'd never heard of !

All C&C welcome

Great set of shots, David - your persistence in pursuing this lens has certainly paid off well.

I also admire your dedication to superb Macro work with the 'oldies'.

Best regards

Lovely work, Nigel.

Great detail in the texture of some of those blooms.

I agree with David about the quality of some of the old manual glass but I'm afraid I tend to be lazy and keep using my AF Sigma 18-250 or Pentax 18-135 when I'm 'out and about' away from home.

Best regards

For me it is No 10 that stands out, for the lighting effect, followed by 11 and 13 for the unusual capture of the cascades.

Just keep them coming, Bill !

Incidentally, did you do the Ingleton Waterfall Trail when you were up in Yorkshire ?

Best regards
Peter
