Great Dixter, in East Sussex, is now a Trust which maintains the buildings and runs training courses for gardeners. It's history is summarised on a display board shown in Shot 1. (All images taken hand held using a K70 with Sigma 18-250mm)

2.
The entrance to the house. The oldest part is to the right with Lutyens extension to the left of the tall chimneys. The Yeomans Hall moved here from Benenden is behind the left side. The lean of the porch is because there were no foundations - the original buildings were just supported on large wooden planks !

This place is a must for keen gardeners and they have a nursery with plant sales and lots of exotic varieties that I'd never heard of !

All C&C welcome

Nice pictures Peter. I have been there and it is very interesting inside and out. Yes the gardens are lovely.

Many thanks, Peter.

The other thing that impressed me at Dixter was the meadow - I've never before seen so many wild orchids together.
I'm told they are Green Winged Orchids. Here is a shot of the meadow and a close-up of the orchids :-

Thanks for a very informative and enticing insight into a beautiful house & gardens ...

You've caught the flowers at their best, it was a great day to visit with soft light ideal for them. The best pictures are the second (for me) with real clarity to the textures on the building, and a nice balanced exposure with the sky held down well, and also 5 & 8 show off those flowers really well against their backgrounds.

Many thanks for the comments, Nigel. I probably go along with you with the choice of shots.

The clarity and sky are, of course, thanks to your help when I was struggling with RAW files and you enlightened me on the use of PDCU4.
Nowadays I use PSE 11 and it's in-built Adobe Raw to adjust the RAW files, watching both the image and the histogram.
I've found that reducing the Highlights and increasing the Whites does wonders for dull cloudy skies ! (After some adjustment to Clarity and Contrast)

Thanks again
Peter
