I have suffered the mirror flap twice now, Once before the upgrade and once afterwards. Though I have taken several thousand shots since the last time it happened.
I too have been disappointed by the autofocus on the K3, I find my K5 II performs better especially in the auto select setting. The K3 is fine when using centre spot focus but that is not practical for every subject. I even use the slowest burst rate which sometimes helps a bit and have the camera set to give focus priority over framerate.
I generally use both camera`s together, often with a 300mm DA* and the 50-135mm DA* with a 1.4x converter attached to each.
I find that the 300mm struggles in poor light with the converter attached which is understandable I guess.

My K3 suffered the dreaded mirror flapping on Sunday, I was taking aerial shots from a light aircraft when it happened but as I had been reading about it I knew instantly that I needed to remove the batteries from camera and grip (Both genuine Pentax). I was able to continue shooting in no time. I had my K5 II with me as a backup so I didn't panic too much!

Using my K3 in selective spot(AF point) focussing, I find it so frustrating when I need to change one of the settings on the four way buttons. It would be great if one could just press and hold the AF Mode button, Make the changes in the 4 way controller buttons (Flash, Drive mode etc) Then release the AF Mode button. Surely this could be made possible?

I was taken aback by the prices too, But maybe they are the manufacturers recommended prices? Who knows!

I have just paid a visit to the Pentax (Ricoh) website to find more info on the new Converter. I was surprised to find that the list of lenses no longer includes the 16-50 f2.8 DA* and the lovely 300mm f4. Are they both discontinued?
Thankfully i have both of these lenses, But i was totally gobsmacked not to find them listed!

It is worth having some form of cleaning kit in your camera bag just in case of the unexpected. The reason i bought one msny years ago was that i was out photographing at sunrise when my Ist* DL sensor steamed up. I thought that if i gently blew on it it might clear, Unfortunately i allowed a bit of spit to escape and hit my sensor! I had to travel 30 miles to the nearest camera shop and wait for it to open. They sold me some swabs for £17 and kindly gave me a drop of cleaning fluid for free. So as soon as i found the Pentax 01-CK1 kit i bought one straight away! I used it on other people`s sensors too.

I have been using the Pentax sensor cleaning kit for several years, In fact i am on my second kit which i bought about 3 years ago. Nikon used to sell an identical one but with the gel yellow coloured instead of orange on the pentax one. It has worked extremely well and last for about 30 cleans but i have not had any need to use it on my K5II and K3 yet. A blower has been the only thing other than the camera`s own dust removal system.

I posted my K3 late afternoon on the 3rd Feb. It had the vertical banding problem. Recieved a replacement this morning 14th Feb.
