Some nice shots in the gallery. 30 something years since I went to Bergen as a kid. Always wanted to go back.

I did my first photography workshop on Saturday - first year has just been spent on my own practicing and taking loads of shots so I figured it was time to get a bit of outside help. We got up to Glen Coe before dawn and had a good wander round a variety of spots before finishing at Castle Stalker for sunset. Some great conditions at Castle Stalker hence 2 or 3 from there as I can't decide which one I like best. Some I'm not hugely fussed about but they were sort of locations you've got to do. There were only a couple of us on the workshop but you still couldn't just wander off. I've got my sleeping bag and a big estate so first chance I get I'm bombing back up and having a good explore.

I really enjoyed the day out and the day in (we did photoshop the second day).

One of the highlights was the fish and chips at the Real Food Cafe at Tyndrum. Superb.

Absolutely down to whatever you want to do - editing a normal scene or an image that had you thinking "jings but thats strange". Subject was inspired by my first photography workshop at the weekend. Arrived at Castle Kilchurn to find the most amazing rainbow which resulted in three grown men who should have known better running about the field in the rain trying to find the best viewpoint.

Thanks for the concise replies guys - although I missed the Sigma at SRS I'm just going to hang back and see if I can snaffle one if and when one comes up. It just makes more sense for me as I'd like that focal length for my landscapes as well.

Loaded into camera RAW with a couple of minor adjustments, changed to greyscale and one of the presets in duotone within CS4 used. Loaded that image into photmatix light and then used ACDSee3 to age the image slightly. After that a crop and sharpen. I only have CS4 as a demo at the moment as I'm still trying to work out what I want to use long term.

What is meant by 1:1 and 1:2? Hear the phrase but no idea what it means.

I think its an excellent idea - It would be very interesting to see how much effect the right processing could make (and how effective small changes can be). Going on my very first workshop type course at the weekend and I'm looking forward to it.

An interesting abstract - I like it and could really see it as a very print. I seem to have developed a tree fetish since taking up photography. Its usually only satisfied by complete trees but I think this is very efective.
