First Workshop day - last Saturday up North

I did my first photography workshop on Saturday - first year has just been spent on my own practicing and taking loads of shots so I figured it was time to get a bit of outside help. We got up to Glen Coe before dawn and had a good wander round a variety of spots before finishing at Castle Stalker for sunset. Some great conditions at Castle Stalker hence 2 or 3 from there as I can't decide which one I like best. Some I'm not hugely fussed about but they were sort of locations you've got to do. There were only a couple of us on the workshop but you still couldn't just wander off. I've got my sleeping bag and a big estate so first chance I get I'm bombing back up and having a good explore.

I really enjoyed the day out and the day in (we did photoshop the second day).

One of the highlights was the fish and chips at the Real Food Cafe at Tyndrum. Superb.

I think the castle shots are splendid, very dramatic.

Cheers folks - it was a very enjoyable day out and we got lucky with the conditions.

One of the other guys was using a Canon 7D which was a really lovely bit of kit and the guy taking the workshop had a 5D mk2. All it did was make me decide that the next purchase will be a K-5 instead of a new lens. All the shots were taken with the Sigma 10-20 by the way.

Good, I have the 10-20mm and something to aim for.

You say you're a beginner at this game. I reckon in a previous life you must have been called Ansel Adams or something or other.
The Castle Stalker shots are terrific although I prefer the first one with just a slight tone. I also like your Rannoch Moor pictures and again I think 'The Buckle' , picture #4, would look better in pure black and white rather than with the sepia treatment.

Cheers folks - 13 months now Dave but I've been completely hooked since the day the K-X arrived and still taking a couple of thousand images a month. I'm particularly lucky that I live so close to some beautiful countryside and that work are very easy about how and when I do my hours. I was also very lucky with the conditions on the trip up to Scotland and I think that makes a huge difference.

I'll have another play with No4 - it was edited using Lightroom (we had a bit of tuiton on it at the workshop) and that was done using one of the presets and I just liked it. The first one is probably my favourite from the trip - taken just as a big squall was coming in and only just about avoided blowing the highlights on a 150 second exposure.
