My silver K-5 seems durable and no issues so far.

Done. Difficult to answer some of the other categories as there aren't really many multiples left! It's an interesting state of affairs when Jessops is a serious prize contender again....

Thanks for the advice everyone - I think I have some experimenting to do.... I do also have a Colorchecker Passport which is helpful for setting up some standard profiles. I find raw processing in LR pretty quick but if I can get JPEGs that are pretty much good to go from the camera, I wouldn't be complaining.

However, it's worth mentioning that the Premium JPEGs produced by the camera are superb and I don't normally shoot anything else. This is not always true and some other manufacturers don't manage to produce JPEGs anywhere near as well as Pentax do. In the worst case I have found they were unusable.
John - coming from Olympus, I am not averse to shooting mostly JPEG, although with the K-5 I've not ventured from raw yet. Are there any particular JPEG settings that you find work best for you? I'm curious to experiment but not averse to shamelessly copying from someone else as my starting point!

Thanks,

But it was a brand anyway. Originally for the Asahi Optical Company, who made my first two Pentax cameras (Spotmatic, MX). Nothing terribly new here - be happy Ricoh are actually determined to develop some good new products based on current indications.....

Tempting once the price settles...I've been caught out in poor weather with long telephotos more than any other type of lens. But a WR80-400 would be better!

I'm not sure it's so sad. There's been more positive development around the K system since Pentax was sold to Ricoh, as well as improvements in other product lines (better Q body, finally a decent high end compact with the MX-1).

The real commitment to develop and build on a somewhat neglected baseline is great and from the specs of the new K-3 it looks as if the heritage of innovation hasn't gone away either. I really don't mind if a good quality K mount lens comes in a box with Ricoh on the front - they used to sell loads of great K mount film cameras and it's good for us to have them back. The quality of the products is what matters, rather than the badge (ditto the rear LCD of the K-3).

Would you be interested in a K100D Super with kit lens in excellent condition, relatively little use? I think I still have the box and it comes with caps, hood, strap, etc? It's an older camera but solid, capable of very decent images and runs on AA batteries which is probably a bonus for kids. And yes, same lens mount as the Kx.

Cheers,

Jon

Quite a lot of heat but not terribly much light in this thread - perhaps we should all wait and see what's announced in a week? It's not so terribly long to wait. In the meantime our existing cameras are a good as they were when we bought them....

And continuing the "what happens" of the original post, for me nothing happens until the K-3ii in a year or so....then I'll consider upgrading the K-5 if the K-3 turns out to have been a significant improvement, and when the prices have settled. My K-5 has lost a lot of value now and is as good as it ever was. I can't argue that it ever holds me back, and I have barely scratched the surface of its capabilities. I'm also not so interested in even more MP and even larger file sizes. Just makes PP slower and more computer-intensive. I don't print large enough for there to be a noticeable difference. But I do realise that they have to keep up.....
