I'm waiting for the next lot of Tesco vouchers which should bring our total to £80 and am then going to buy some Jessops vouchers at the 2:1 exchange rate offered. Thats £160 off their 100mm WR lens price which is actually pretty reasonable to begin with plus I get £20 cashback through quidco.

I would think it's limitations would be more obvious on the K-r due to the higher resolution.
The 18-250 looks considerably better IMHO:

I'm going to state the obvious here, are the batteries in the right way up? I've actually bought cameras as non-working only to find the batteries inserted upside down, particularly with the small button cells.
