I also use the Sigma 24mm f2.8 Super-Wide II for street photography, much smaller but a bit longer than you say you are looking for.
That would have been my suggestion, I have both the AF and manual focus versions, but as you say too long. It is decent wide open at f/2.8 though.

Nowadays, an amplifier on a chip can out-perform stuff that used to cost thousands of pounds, and people select their music-making equipment on the basis of looks and size, rather than sound quality.

'Twill be the same with cameras, ere long.

Still using a Rotel RA-971 MkII with B&W 601 S3's, sounds glorious

I envisage people subjects often being on the edge of the frame because I will be in close aiming to one side to fool them into thinking they aren't in the shot.
Ah, well you got me there, the only lens I could recommend would be the Zeiss 18mm f/3.5, I don't think anything else would compare edge sharpness wise, there's a test on EOS FF here:

Obviously on crop sensor the edge sharpness would be considerably better.

I just think for the money better sharpness should be part of the deal. The lens will inevitably be used for more than Street where edge to edge sharpness could be desirable.
Could the DA-15 Ltd not be used for street photography where the centre is very sharp even at f/4 with a nicely de-focused background and edge softness becomes less of a concern, maybe even desirable, then stop down to f/8 of f/11 for more critical landscape/architectural shots?

Just a thought, it's a beautiful, compact and discrete lens.

A very nice lens by all accounts

The 60-250's not too bad size wise 168x82mm, but with tripod mount and hood weighs in at 1230g's opposed to the Tamron 151x82mm weight 765g an increase of 465g, over 50%, that's quite a bit extra to carry. You lose 50mm from the long end but gain constant f/4 aperture, better IQ and weather sealing. It's the weight penalty that gets me, that and the 300% price increase, diminishing returns

Maybe it's a conspiracy to get people to buy the DA*60-250/4

Now if only it wasn't so heavy...........

You can't use the same lens for wildlife and sports
I'd be quite happy to use the DA*300 for motorsport, but fieldsports would probably necessitate a zoom.

We already have, not sure about 4/3 though. Stumbled across this though:

Maybe we'll get that 1.4x SDM rear converter now, with Tokina's involvement with Pentax and Kenko's commitment to making quality converters.

DA*300/4, often with a rear converter Tamron-F AF 1.4x Pz-AF MC4, Teleplus 1.5x Pz-AF SHQ, 1.7x Pz-AF 1.7x SHQ. Giving 420, 450 and 510mm focal lengths.
