I agree, excellent feature. On the KX I understand it is limited to focus in the centre of the scene though, not sure if the K7 is the same? Really does help with camera shake as you say.

I use catch in focus all the time... here is a trick to try (only for those with a cable release):
set your camera up in front of your fish tank or a nice setting you'd like to photo your cat.... set it all up, lock your cable release so the camera will fire when the subject is in the frame, then use a laser to lead your subject into the frame... (yes fish will chase a laser just like your cat..).

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I have been trying to use 'Catch in Focus' feature on my K-5, however can't seem to get it working...
Mind letting me know how you get it working?

you need a manual focus lens. if you use an "AF" lens you need to tape over the electrical contacts with scotch tape. you then set the focus manually, set the camera body to AF and press the shutter or lock your cable release open and when the subject is in focus, the shutter will fire... but the shutter will not fire UNTIL something is confirmed to be in focus by the camera.

Turn it on in the menu, point at your subject and slowly turn the focus ring, when the object comes into focus the shutter will fire.

I assume it works on the k5 with an autofocus lens if you switch the camera to manual focus, and / or flick the focus switch on the lens?

Aha, just tried it. With a DA* it does work when the camera is set to af, and the lens set to mf. I assume that means it'll work for any DA* lens, and maybe any other af lens with an mf switch - except maybe a tamron 90mm

It's an old part of the Pentax software is 'catch in focus', if my memory is correct it goes back as far as the SF7 film camera!
Very useful it is too.

Very useful feature,
IIRC it should work with any lens when AF is turned to manual.
Great for self portraits or catching the dog(s) stealing food when you're out of the room.

Anyone else using this, and is it unique to Pentax?
