When using manual focus on the K-r when the green confirmation is on I also get the centre red point flash, I just took it as an indication of where the camera is confirming the focus point is, although I have not tried moving the focus point in manual mode I but would imagine that it can still be moved.

One that could maybe answered after it has run the course, has there been any lens correction applied to the 1st image?

I prefer 1 for its sharper detail, I get the feeling No2 has lost something in the compressing and the blueness is carried a bit too much into the trees on the right but still prefer the colour in the 2nd.

But by judging on the detail and sharpness of detail has to be 1

I use some 3rd party batteries in my K-r, what I have found with them is they are better after a recent charge (within 7 days), they will give me loads of extra shots, the genuine pentax battery will hold its charge alot longer.

I work away often, up-to 6 weeks in a stint I can put the Pentax battery in and shoot away for a respectable amount of time, but the 3rd party ones 20-30 shots and am showing amber on the indicator and empty not many later.

It just means I need to remember to put the 3rd party battery when I get back, so as long as you don't do similar leaving battery for extended period can't see you being to disappointed with a 3rd party battery.

On the K-r tripod mounted manual focus is easier, have not tried handheld, never been able (sussed out how) to zoom in the live view though.

That would be great, I do miss using the aperture ring, much rather have that than the e-dial

When I had my Sigma 600mm mirror on hand-holding could hear the shake reduction working, wasn't clattering about but definitely hear it, once I had steadied up on the wall wasn't noticeable.

I never thought about which lens to do the stepping on, but good to be told what I have got wrong, now for more practice. I was really surprised at the difference in working distance with the reversed lens, I think given time and practice I am going to like this macro stuff, especially if I can find subjects that are not as flighty, or I speed up my reaction times.
