Hello Richard and welcome to the forum.

I have the same dilemma as Clarky dithering between the DA35 and FA31 Limiteds. Still, it's nice to have lenses to aspire to so I'm not complaining!

I think there are a few more important advantages to K10 than have been mentioned..... The K10 is sealed against the ingress of damp and dirt etc and.
So is the K200D! It has ove 60 seals!

One other point to note is the addition of a 3rd focussing mode on the K10D over the K200D - continious. Good for tracking flying objects!
so what does the k10d have over the k200d in terms of focus, because my k200 has single focus, continious focus, good for tracking moving objects, and manual focus.
They actually have the same focus system (as well as the same sensor) so you're not missing out. The difference is that the K10D has a 3-way selector next to the lens mount whereas the K200D has a 2-way one (with the choice of AF mode being made in menus). It's a small detail but another point to the K10D as far as I'm concerned...

I saw a review of the Tokina 12-24mm zoom. Is this just a variant of the Pentax lens? The 'change to manual focus' is different (pull the focusing ring towards you) but it is an constant F4. No cheaper than the Pentax one though.

Cheers, Kris.
It's the same optical formula but the mechanics, cosmetics and coatings are quite different. I believe it was another joint Pentax/Tokina development like the DA* zooms, the DA10-17 and the DA35 Limited.

Pretty much all lenses on DSLRs will be limited by diffraction from f11 onwards - the DA12-24 is no exception. You'll get the "sweet spot" for sharpness around f5.6, a slight (barely noticeable) drop in quality by around f8 and it'll start dropping off a proverbial cliff beyond f11.

I notice this was at taken at f14 so I'm putting two and two together here...

John is absolutely right about the tripod though - my DA18-55 on a tripod will kick my FA43 (one of the sharpest lenses ever made) all over the shop if the latter is hand-held at any speed much below about 1/500.

Like I said, can't think of a better spend of ten quid! Glad it worked

K10D for extra control wheel and pentaprism viewfinder.

I vote K10D for the extra control wheel and pentaprism viewfinder

When i attached the lenses to the camera, i got a big F--- in the top LCD display on the camera body.
That's because there's no electrical connection between the older lenses and the camera body, hence the camera has no idea what you've set the aperture to on the lens (this is why older lenses are harder work ).

It sounds like the Tokina lens you've inherited is a more modern example with the "A" setting on the aperture ring - this has the basic electrical contacts that allow the camera to "read" and set the aperture from the body.

Lenses with the "A" setting always tend to be worth more on eBay etc than their older cousins, however, optically speaking the older lenses are just as (sometimes even more) capable of producing stunning results.

I think my 110 case is more like foam and vinyl covered cardboard...

Is this something that could be changed in a firmware update, or will it always be this way?
It *could* be changed but I very much doubt it will. Cable releases don't need to be expensive; I bought mine from a Chinese eBay vendor and it cost around £5 including postage - good enough for the job.
