Anyone else waiting for their k20d?

I ordered my K20d earlier this week and the money still hasn't left my account so i'm guessing SRS still haven't received them...

I'm like a wee laddie waiting on santa coming, except they keep moving christmas to the next day!

I don't want to keep calling and pestering the folks at SRS, but i just want to play with my new toy.

I would contact chris@srswatford (using the messaging on this site). I did that last week and he kept me up to date on progress of my order. He's had a run of orders and was waiting on stock from Pentax for me but luckily it only took a day or so to come in. He's a good guy and the service from SRS is excellent. I know how you feel - I was excited about getting my K20D too!

It *is* worth the wait folks

(not that I'm rubbing it in, I waited a couple of weeks for mine as I was on a business trip!)

For anyone in the NW don't forget Mathers of Bolton, one of the oldest Pentax dealers in the counrty and at one time about the only dealer in AP pushing Pentax. Formerly Mathers of Manchester est. 1900. I think they moved about 20 years ago. The shop is right in the town centre.

I bought my K10D off them when they first came out and were hard to source. I phoned them and they put one to one side for me to collect. I also bought a lot of film gear off them over the years and they always had a good supply of Pentax catalogues and most equipment in stock.

I was already to buy the K20D and 18-55mm mkI lens for £539 then I go to the SRS site to see that it has been taken off.
The body only has also gone up from £499.99 to £539.

Ah well .. serves me right for being so indecisive.

I may well wait now and see if there is a new body announced in the next few months.

Great news Peter (remember to update your signature!) Not so great news Mike! I had thought about holding off to see if they bring out a new body but to be honest the K20D is more than advanced enough for my skills plus I just decided to stick to a budget that I was prepared to spend. If the new body comes out it will probably be significantly more expensive and I just couldn't justify that.

I've not had much chance to play with the K20D yet to be honest - partly because of the weather and other commitments such as work, etc. - but I love it already. Especially how customisable it is. My partner is also delighted with my gift of my K100D and we're both looking forward to days out with our cameras.

I don't imagine for one moment I would buy a new model as I also expect the price of a new body to be a fair bit more but at the same time the K20D should drop a fair wack as well which would then be enough incentive for me to make the jump from my K10D.

Got a wee bonus at the weekend as well...

I've been gifted a few old Pentax lenses and a flash from my dad's old camera. I'll post more info about them later as i'm quite keen to know more about what i've inherited )

I know there's a 49mm Pentax lens in there, and a very similar Tamron. Both are pretty fast lenses. There's also a 200mm telephoto and a 2x adapter.

More to follow, but i'm looking forward to hear what you all think of them.

Probably a lens with a 49mm filter thread - easy mistake to make and 49mm is a common size with Pentax lenses.

He could always hope it was 43mm...

acht well... doesn't matter anyway. You were right. Both the Pentax and Tamron lenses were 50mm (i'll post more about them tonight) and they had 49mm UV filters screwed onto the front (doh! - please remember i'm new to this). They don't work with the K20d though... booooooo.

Only one that does work out of 4, is the 200mm telephoto - i'll take some pics tonight and you can let me know what you think of it.

The flash gun does work though which is good and it comes with a flash sync lead as well.

So, all in, i'm happy as larry. A free lens, a free flash gun and a years ahead of me to learn how to use them.

Initial impressions of the camera are good. So easy to handle, and a lot to explore... and built like a tank ) And i'm finding the Mk11 18 - 55 kit lens very fast and accurate to use. Once i've settled in with it all, i'll post a couple of pics up onto my flickr page.

If they worked on an older Pentax camera then they should work on the K20D. If they're older (pre-A series) lenses then you'll need to set "Use Of Aperture Ring" to "Permitted" in your K20D's Custom Menu. Once you've done this then you can set the aperture on the lenses themselves and meter using the green button on the camera. Manual (M) and Aperture Priority (Av) modes only.

Not as convenient as modern auto-everything lenses it's true, but some old lenses are capable of stunning results so worth persevering with!
