I'm sure you'll be happy with the K20D.
If I don't ask now someone else will so could you please fill in your location on your profile so we can all see which side of the pond you are ?

I think you have some good images on the site but as a whole it doesn't work for me, I was keen to look at your portfolio but had problems with some of the links and the site cropping images.
A bit more work though and you will have a really professional looking site with some really good images displayed.

As a starting point I would try cleaning the camera's battery contacts with something more substantial than air - possibly a cotton bud moistened with a drop of alcohol or electrical contact cleaner - I'm fairly sure that someone else on here will confirm that this procedure is safe - or otherwise.
Edit,
oops, seems you tried it whilst I was typing this

Will the latest WR version of the 18 - 55 mm kit lens cope with this kind of abuse ?

I can recommend the Giottos MTL 9315B. If you need a hide clamp you can take out the center section and put on a Manfrotto 349 aluminium hide column clamp. I have found it very useful just to carry the center column with the clamp, to fix to fences etc.

I too was elated with my first (and only :blush acceptance to the PPG.
Let's hope it's the first of many, for both of us.
