I can thoroughly recommend the ist DS, I have the Samsung version and still use it at least as much as my Pentax K20D

This may be tempting fate - but both my DSLRs K20d and GX1S and variety of lenses seem fairly robust.
I did however drop a Carl Zeiss Zuiko 50 mm lens onto a tiled floor last week and bugger the focusing.

I have just ordered a Giottos MTL 931 B £75 including delivery - spec is similar to the Manfrotto 055.

My post was aimed at people, like myself, who use NiMH batteries to power all manner of devices.
I'm sure that the points raised about the virtues of different battery types are sound.
The fact remains that if you are in the market for general purpose re-chargeables (which will work in your AA powered camera or flash gun) you could do worse than these.

I've used various brands of NiMH batteries in my Samsung GX1S and in several different flashguns and find them OK - you may well be right that the more expensive batteries last longer, however in my experience her indoors or the kids spirit them away to power torches, radios and god knows what else so the cheap ones suit my needs.
I'll update this post if the Aldi ones turn out to be 'dud'

Picked up some 2300mAh rechargeable batteries today in Aldi at what I thought was a great price - £2.79 for a pack of 4, Aldi own brand but they don't usually sell poor quality.

I'm sure you would be more than happy with the K7 and zoom lenses, my only comment would be to give Chris at SRS Microsystems (see official shop partner to the right of this page) a ring to check current prices and if possible buy from him - the level of service that he supplies is better than you will find with most other retailers and he offers free delivery if you mention that you are a forum member.

No 2 for me, I like the way the sun provides the main source of illumination, in contrast to the beacon. Cracking image.
