I opened the B&W one in 'Safari' and 'Firefox' and the picture seemed a bit flat.
I downloaded it and opened it in Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac and without doing anything, the contrast was there ???
Probably just shows the limitations of the browsers, but I downloaded the others pictures too, and there was no change in contrast when I opened them in PSE6 ?
Maybe someone smarter than me knows why, but anyway, the pictures are cool
John.
But when I did it, the foreground suited it too !
Very nice capture, and so many options available to you !!!

I'm with you Barrie I think. Even in normal circumstances I don't have the time to take that many photos.
At the moment when I am struggling to take any photographs at all. I went to the zoo on Monday but I didn't take my camera. I just couldn't face lugging it around. I'm hoping inspiration and enthusiasm return soon. I took nearly 3000 photos in four weeks on holiday. I was disappointed with the bulk of them and it has hit me hard I think. Can't get any enthusiasm going at all.
I feel the same way a lot of the time, and end up with the same results, 10 good/fair images from a 1000.
So I put the camera away for a week or two.
My saviour, is logging on to this forum.
I look at photographs from some of the members, and knowing they use a Pentax, and have some of the same lenses I have, and can produce some stunning images, I think, "so can I".
So to, Lilly, Malo1961, Daniel B, RR, Darkmunk, Prieni to name just a few, ( in no particular order, by-the-way ! ) thanks for the inspiration.

I do like to give the subject something, "to look into", so I left a lot of 'space', for that.
As for the yellow rail, it was left in on purpose to go with the beak and eye, I did crop a bit of dark woodwork below it, but I do like the yellow rail in the picture.
Think of it more as an abstract than a wildlife picture .
Lerwick harbour has a lot of luminous paintwork, yellow, orange and green, so I had to include part of it in the image.

The sky's were incredible that evening, ( pic 2 ), I sat near the waters edge, planning on taking a picture or two every 20 minutes or so until the sun set.
Unbelievably, the sky and light changed from minute to minute, 20 or 30 pictures quickly changed to 300 !!!
I love going to Shetland, my next trip is in January, hoping to fit in the "Up Helly-Ah", Viking Fire Festival, just don't tell my boss !!!
