Woops, this is the second fortnightly comp in which I'm deleting and re-posting my image. But Daniel Bridge has just indicated how I can re-size (much) more effectively, and this image now looks more like my original (on my monitor at least).
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know their way around re-sizing issues, I thoroughly recommend Dan's blog - mentioned here: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/re-sizing-images-14708/p-2#comm_149572.
