I was in Italy recently for a 10 day holiday, the temperature varied between 36°C and 42°C and after lugging the 'big' camera and a couple of lenses around Venice and Florence I gave up for Rome and Naples and went for the phone camera. I shot in RAW and processed the images at home.
Initially I found it hard to get the shots I wanted, but after a little while I got used to it and was quite pleased with the results.
May not give up on the 'big' camera, but the for holiday pics, the iPhone will do nicely.
Some of the Rome pics are here, maybe not professional standard, but I was impressed by the quality that was achievable.
