I've been fully Linux powered since Vista came out, actually I think Vista did more to further the cause of Linux on the desktop than anything else in recent times. I know several people who switched to Linux to avoid Windoze Vista.

I switched partly for that reason and partly to unify my OSs across all my PCs. All three of them (netbook laptop and desktop) now run Ubuntu linux with more or less the same software installed. Means I can do anything on any one of them, just takes a little longer on the netbook.

7 looks much nicer, but of the bits and pieces they advertise on the TV about 90% are lifted straight from KDE or Gnome (linux graphical user interfaces). M$ wouldn't know an original idea if it bit them on the backside.
I have three machines on 7, one on XP and one very old machine on Ubuntu.

When you compare the specs, fastest to slowest (Win 7 on a Quad core 2.8 GHz with 4Gb ram v. Ubuntu on a 700 MHz with 256k ram) Ubuntu runs suprisingly well. This is the machine that I took XP off because it was so slow - it's very useable with Ubuntu.

Well, Mars has indeed scooted away from the Moon - I'd need a 12 mm lens to get both in frame.

I tried HDR on the Moon and nearby houses, but this doesn't work very well (at least with the software that I have).

Maybe the only way to get two such differently bright objects together in one shot will be in Photoshop.

I wonder if it's possible to get something decent of the Moon and Mars together with a bit of HDR.

I did try this on Friday night (with limited time, so in a big hurry) but couldn't seem to get a high enough range with the cameras bracketing settings. Should be easy enough to do in manual mode, though.

I might have another try tonight, if the sky is clear and if Mars hasn't stalked off too far from the Moon.

I'm looking forward to this tonight. Hoping for a clear atmosphere!

I took some pics of Mars at 1,000 mm a month or so ago and it's stunning even at that focal length.

To photograph the pair together I'd try 100 - 135 mm.

If this is the same aircraft type, I saw one *almost* take off at Farnborough Air Show some years ago... we spectators were told that they aborted due to a 'technical fault'.

I'd love to see that beast actually fly.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I can live with it - just hoping that there might be a 'fix'.

AFAIK LED's are generally reliable things, so I wondered if there could be dirt in there obstructing the LED (unlikely with the excellent sealing) or maybe a 'dry' ribbon cable connection or solder joint. As the camera goes in and out doors frequently (especially in this cold weather) this could be a cause?

BTW, the LED didn't just stop working completely one day - it failed over a day or two, partly and dimly lit.

I just installed and tried out version 4.

This is much better to use than version 3 and much faster response to navigation commands (switching file to file, etc.). Also, it doesn't hang in Windows 7 (so far ).

I didn'd need a CD in the end; downloaded the original software courtesy of a post elsewhere in this forum and simply updated it.
I have just installed Windows 7 on my PC and could really use a link for that download if you have it handy.

TIA

Many thanks for this... I have just built a new computer running Win7-64 and PB3.61 is very unhappy - keeps freezing/not responding.

I'll try the 4.11 version and see if it's a bit more stable.

My left-of-centre focus point LED has stopped working. The focus point itself still works, in so far as the camera will still focus with that point selected, and the green hex lights up when focus has been confirmed by the camera.

I have given the camera a clean as far as I can without taking it apart, to try to eliminate any dirt issues. But as far as I can work out, the LED's are behind the pentaprism, mounted underneath where the built-in flash unit sits?

Anyone had this problem, and any ideas?
Thanks.

The thread size is M3 but please remove the batteries from your K10D before drilling through the shutter button.
I'm guessing 3/16". It's a 1/4" thread?
British Standard Bicycle, or Brtish Standard Pipe?
Or Whitworth. No, wait, they're raisins.
