Hi, now I know from my time here there are some aviation buffs around, just got some info from another forum I frequent (a motorbike one) that the Antonov 225 will be at east midlands airport on saturday.

(The guy who posted works for the company thats hired it so the info is good :wink

EDIT: and if a mod could correct the typo in the title i'd be eternally grateful

It's been into nearby Geilenkirchen Air Base three times and I've missed it each time! My only photo of it was taken at Singapore/Changi some years ago - through glass and at a distance.

Its been there a few times, I used to work at EMA. Its amazing to see take off, it takes such a long time to gain height and speed before it can turn in the air. I live in Ashby now so if the wind is in the right direction it will be passing overhead.

I have a mate (and fellow aviation enthusiast) who lives close to East Midlands. Thanks for the info, I've past it on. I've never seen a 225, but its little sister the 124 has been to Stockholm a few times. I of course have never had a camera to hand to capture the moment.

Cheers,

Yes an amazing aircraft.

It visted my workplace 3 times to deliver one milling machine. Absolutely dwarfed the Beoing 747s it was parked next to.

Unfortunately we have a 'no cameras on site' rule where I work so I've no photos of it. But even those not interested in aircraft could find it an interesting subject - perhaps someone will use it for a subject in the current weekly competition as the theme is 'Size Contrast'.
Good luck

If this is the same aircraft type, I saw one *almost* take off at Farnborough Air Show some years ago... we spectators were told that they aborted due to a 'technical fault'.

I'd love to see that beast actually fly.

any situation in which you can use a Boeing 747 as the "small" item in a size contrast shot has got to be worth the effort!
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Hi guys,
Don't know if you are aware, but that AN-225 is actually the ONLY one ever built, originally to carry the Ruskie space shuttle.
See this link for further details;

I've never seen it, but might just take a drive over Derby way on Saturday !!!

I wonder how it compares with the B777-300, A340-600 or the A380.

When I am taxying past LHR T3 the Singapore Airways or Emirates A380 dwarf everything else. Even living below the flight path of the southern runway I can tell an A380 just because of it's size. It's also easy to mark out the B777 and A340 due to their length (both are longer than the 747)....

Although the wingspan of the Ant is only 8m larger than the 'Bus, it's maximum take-off weight is 80 tons higher. It's a beast.
