Hi,
I have tried google but so many results 'can't see the wood for the trees' so am asking here:
This was nephews first Xmas and his Dad was so focussed on taking videos with his Fuji bridge he didn't take any stills. I took very few ( 3 decent ones only)with my k-x (too busy enjoying being with tot )and one video clip with my Samsung phone (says does HD video).
Now they are regretting not having many still photos. I know that it is possible to get software to capture the individual frames from a video and convert to a still jpeg (and then could presumably PP from that jpeg in Elements 10 or older PSP which we have.)
If there was a free one I could suggest to them, or even play with myself for them ( having loads more free time than they do) that would solve the problem.
My googling just seems to come up with 'screen capture' freebies ( including faststones version and I love their viewer) but from what I read about them when I click through I don't think that's what I need to produce a quality result (? or is it)
Does anyone know of / have experience of such a free download? Or am I being too hopeful to get something like that free?

Endorse what OldTaffy says about individual charging for each cell.
If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have known that the reason one of my sets of eneloops was failing fast was because one battery was failing after only a few months and not taking / holding charge like the rest of them.
To be precise -we have multiple sets of Eneloops and 7 day in both AA and AAA, for use in a range equipment inc camera, flash and TV multifunction remote. For some sets the eneloops are better in others the 7 day. There seems to be 'quality' variation in both. I summarised in my previous post. I use both Sanyo Eneloops and the slightly cheaper 7 Day Shop 'Good to Go' ones. Performance / longevity seem pretty equal with the sort of use mine gets - sat around a lot, occasional few shots and occasional intensive use.

We picked up a Amazon bargin AF360 flash c a month ago and I find that my k-x gives me more flexibility esp. for quick shutter speeds with it's better higher ISO performance than hubby's K10D gives him.
That could be our skill levels of course but if you are thinking of indoor / low light use I'd say get a k-x if you can afford it.

Can't speak for the 10.1 Note but I have the Note phone and love it. The reason's I would go for Samsung product over iPad are:
SD ( Micro) card slot means expandable memory.
S -pen (stylus) allows you to 'mark up' documents ( included Polaris office lets me use Word and Excel as well as Powerpoint) with annotations and make quick notes to yourself. I haven't tried with photo's but I THINK I saw that you can do this with the Note 10.1 and am sure a google would tell you one way or another. If it does I would have thought that would be great for discussing photos with clients.

Is this normal - Had the same issue with some prints and found just like people here saying monitor was way too bright as we have it at 77 for general use but to match prints needed to be at around 15. So to me Yes what you are describing seems normal.Thanks again everyone.
I see it as this. In a perfect world I would like my finished print to look exactly the same as it did on the monitor. However I would guess that even with the best monitor, best calibration, best printing etc this is not consistantly possible.

I don't have personal experience yet but I have been following comments about all these lenses on the forum for some months as it's probably the next sort of lens I will get.
If I were to buy now based and what I have read I would get the Tamron, like you I would want to be able to go that fast when needed.

Thanks guys. I had picked up on Stofen and the catchlight panel from Matt Matics excellent piece and have been investigating so it's good to know others back that up and that I don't need to rush out and buy the Omni straight away.
I will try with the catchlight this time and then maybe get the Omni for shots at Xmas.

Hubby has downloaded and installed Photoshop and Premiere onto our Windows 8 machine + had a quick look and no compatibility issues so far.
However, as I suspected won't open PEF files. Is that to be expected due to age of product and we need to covert / use DNG or can something be done?
