This has already been posted and withdrawn as it turned out to be not free after all - has this now been resolved. Does anyone know?

Not strictly true I'm afraid.

Adobe has made these non-retail keys that don't need activation available to owners of licences to use CS2 to facilitate the re-installation of their legally acquired software.

Ordinarily, Adobe products contact an activation server when first used in order to authenticate the licence.

The activation servers for CS2 have been terminated since December 13th 2012. Anybody trying to activate a newly installed CS2 product using a retail key will fail.

That said, Adobe's license states something like "you are granted licence to use the product if it was acquired from Adobe". Adobe making these downloads available from their own site has been interpreted by many to mean that they are licensed to use it as they have sourced it from Adobe themselves.

AFAIK, Adobe has not made any further comment. They did remove the download page for a while, only to reinstate it later.

The link supplied above now takes you to the main Creative Suite page.

I guess Adobe has decided to remove this facility now.

I downloaded it as well as Adobe Acrobat but the version of Acrobat was incompatible with my much newer copy of MS Office. As far as CS2 is concerned, Adobe allowed me to download it and gave me the key.

From what I can make out someone in Adobe made a mistake and whilst, technically, the software is only for licensed users to download Adobe have said they will not pursue others who download it.

This thread in Adobe Community may be of interest.

Downloads page is here.

Mac users should note that most, if not all, are PPC applications and will not run in 10.7 or 10.8 but will run in 10.6 with Rosetta installed, 10.5 or 10.4.

Just downloaded Photoshop. Installs and runs ok on Win 7 as far as I can tell.

Just need to find out what does what. I did have photoshop7 and with a quick look it seems similar.

Cant see that adobe would try anything now to say its not legal, besides anyone that uses this (cs2) is more likely to spend on adobe updated software in the future once they are used to it. I think that was the case with pirated Microsoft progs.

The version of Photoshop CS2 that has been made available for download is the RTM version 9.0.0

In the past I've downloaded an update to version 9.0.2 (I am a legal and licensed user of PS CS2).

The update servers also seem to have been terminated because the update to 9.0.2 is no longer available.

If you download and use this version you are stuck with the original release, warts 'n all.

There was talk on tinter'web about Cs2 products not running on new versions of windoze, as stated above it will run on win7 and I have acrobat pro 8 running on win8, though it took 2 attempts the 2nd time windoze asked if I wanted to install it in compatibility mode. As far as I can tell its running perfect.

The only problem I've found (so far) was that the installer didn't like the 'program files (x86)' path on Win 7 x64.

Thanks OP & others.

Hubby has downloaded and installed Photoshop and Premiere onto our Windows 8 machine + had a quick look and no compatibility issues so far.

However, as I suspected won't open PEF files. Is that to be expected due to age of product and we need to covert / use DNG or can something be done?
