Spotted this elsewhere.

I have been dithering over this for a while, but no excuse now .

Only fly in the ointment I can see is that they do not appear to have rolled out any updates for nearly a year now (one reason I was holding off buying) and suspect that there will not be any in the future, with Google letting it die off along with Picassa . I would like to be wrong........
You are quite correct. It is an excellent software suite.

Google only bought it to acquire Snapseed. So they sold the Nik package but never developed it. They milked it as long as they could and now, given that is no longer guaranteed to be compatible with latest operating systems they are giving it away to make themselves look benevolent. It's quite the opposite.

It's a shame. It would have been much better had it been further developed and supported.

However, now it is free it cannot be illegitimate to use one the standalone eternal trial versions.

That should have won.

I'm thinking about it.

It's my birthday very soon. I mention it every now and again just in case anyone wants to buy me a K-1.

But seriously, if I did buy a K-1, then for a slightly lower price I could buy a K-3 for myself and for Sue.

I think that's a tough call, so can I have some opinions please?
Opinions:

Buy a K1 and consider a time share arrangement?

How important is magnification? For macro and wildlife then the K3's crop factor wins over in decent light.

How important is lower light shooting, higher iso shooting and raising shadows in pp? The K1 will steamroller the K3.

I'm sure that older glass will perform admirably on the K. Nonetheless I still think the K1 will require the lenses designed for it to get the absolute best.

The K1 promises best ever DSLR IQ. Difficult to resist.

For me, K1 100%. I'm just imaging K5IIs quality several years on - should be stunning.

I don't think that the 15-30 has a front thread for filters.

dave k
It doesn't, that's why a filter set and special ring/holder will be expensive.

With lenses like the 43mm the K-1 is no worse than the K10/20/7/5/3. It only becomes big and bulky when you add a grip or some of the big new fast lenses. As to going back to 35mm angles-of-view, some of us never left them entirely! Apart from trying to justify spending more money on a camera body than we spent on our car, my biggest quandry is what I would do with my beloved 50-135, or my 12-24...
I have those as well. I think I will just continue to use the 50-135. I reckon that you'll get more than the 16mp crop from it at most settings anyway (subject to edge and corner performance when important). Even in crop mode it should be enough for most images I use it for.

For landscape the 15-30 is going to be a must have lens I think. Bit annoying that it will require a whole, new expensive filter set. The 12-24 I will keep as a back-up I think.

I like them. Four in particular for the composition movement and a naturally more moody looking sky.

I'm still trying to work out if I like them but they are certainly interesting and I appreciate them. I like blur but I'm less keen on ghosting. But jury's still out.

Wouldn't call them 'good'.

The Q sold well in Japan. So it was a smart move.
