thanx for the advice.
I for one wouldn't consider those big cities to be places where people actually live...exist sure...Living is a different matter. I got no problem working anywhere in the world, just send tickets, happy to travel, prefer to take my motorcycle though.

I guess the difference for me is this:

In Gerogia, I'd be more inclined to look for a "pulled pork' bbq sandwich, or fried chicken, than a fancy french cheese...

you'll have no troubles finding "checker cab" pale ale in New York...

But you are right, this industry has it's roots tied to fashion, publishing, and media centers... I wonder though, with the internet, and falling magazine sales if what was true and largely is true now, will stay that way into the future? Maybe there are big breaks and big opportunities for us "Have Camera, will travel" types, that prefer rural life... I can hope can't I?

I am sure most of the advice given is good, and well-intentioned, but asking permission to do what you have a legal right to do smacks of giving in to, and thereby bolstering, the general paranoia.

It's only a cricket match, after all. If scantily clad girls were playing netball, it might be a different matter. I might even question myself then!

However, if you want some help and cooperation from the subjects, rather than shooting discreetly from a distance, then of course introductions would pay dividends.

I agree that is why I suggested you 'Let them know you'll be there" as opposed to asking permission.
If you informed them you intend to be there, you aren't doing anything illegal, and you are prepared to defend against any unwarranted harassment, you should be able to go there and enjoy your hobby, or business...

at first I was sure that was me...
but then I realized he has yellow hair, mine is black and brown...
then I realized he's using a kit lens with no hood...sadly I do not use the kit lens.
then I realized his lens is pointing slightly downward...at my height that rarely ever happens when I'm behind other people...
then I realized he's in the UK....
so nope, wasn't me.

Have your background check handy, have some cards with your contact info handy, have model releases handy, call then email the club and let them know you'll be there, and be willing to share/sell any good shots you get, but you won't use anything for commercial purposes without the parents signed consent.

all your bases covered.

I will buy the k7, have test driven one...(waiting for first software revision and initial QC issues with first product runs to show up) but If I didn't want the video capabilities, I'd stick with my k10's.
in your shoes, I'd say the k20 is probably more bang for the buck than the k7....and I'd buy it.
Neither the k7 nor the k20 would be enough to make me buy a camera right now, if I also wasn't shooting video...with hi-def camcoders...

the idea of being able to add video clips with the 50mm 1.4 boke, or the 10-17mm fisheye effect into my work without having to buy 3-6 thousand dollars worth of video adaptors is too good to pass on.

.... in jpeg, you're pretty much stuck with what ya got...

now for next time, a reflector and or flash to fill in the shadows combined with metering for the highlights would get it right in camera...
..
it's ok to be a little lost in my first post...
the best part of that post is to get it right in camera, way easier than fixing it in photoshop...
We'll get you there, sooner than you think...

you first set you camera up in manual (my preference) or av (many prefer) and get your exposure set so you are not burning out the highlights (brightest parts)... you then add (if using flash or other light sources) or reflect (white foamcore works) light into the shadow areas to brighten them up...
the above image used flash...
