Kodak had a colr IR film a few years ago..have you used that? I remember playing with it, but it was so expensive, I gave it up.

just 2 quick questions
1) How about using any cheap hotshoe mounted level, or pc adapter, drill a hole through it an bend yourself a peice of coathanger into a "wire frame finder" to mount on your camera?
2) I remember reading an article in a magazine on how to create infra red look from regular digital images. Is that worth trying?

My suggestion would not yeild stripes per say but rather rings of consentric circles, which I think can be cool especially when used as a compositional element, along with some archetecture, or landscape elements. Adds a little weird color shift, and requires no special/expensive equipment.

Try this one out:
Slow film (100asa or slower)
f16
bracketed exposures from one to six hours.
lens set to infinity.
North star dead center of your viewfinder.
have fun.

I have the af080c.
It has an external power adaptor...
49mm diameter.
can switch between internal (battery) or external power, ttl auto (works fine with my ds2) full manual or 1/4 manual settings.
the front of the ring has a threaded hole for attaching accesories.
(i've used that to screw in wire finder viewers to measure distance and framing with out needing the viewfinder, and to clip tissue vinetters for portraits.)
