I find that if I change batteries very quickly, there's a good chance it will remember date and time. But it must be very quick - replacement close to battery door and right way round, open door, out with the old and in with the new, no hesitation or fumbling. No guarantee that it will work with anyone else's Q though .

Someone on the American forum dismantled a Q and posted pictures. It's not for the faint hearted!

Steve
And the key to the success of this trick is to ensure the battery you are about to remove is not completely dead. Turn the Q on and leave it on for 5 - 10 mins. (It will switch itself off after 5 mins so turn it on again straight away) This will ensure that when you do remove the battery, the Q's capacitors will retain some residual charge and thereby keep its settings. As Lubbyman points out though, the battery exchange needs to be performed as quick as possible if it' to be successful.

I know it works as I have an original Q which manifests this problem and it works for me.

Good luck.

Well done. When all else fails, brute force and ignorance usually works a treat... lol..

Thank you both Chris and Lenny for your advice and encouragement. The question of EVF hadn't escaped my attention, I too prefer the OVF of Pentax and expect that l would likely struggle with an EVF.
In addition, I've been a life long user of Pentax cameras and lenses and don't see the need to change my spots now. However, sometimes the grass may appear greener in another camp leading to momentary temptation, so thanks again Chris and Lenny for your words of wisdom. Have a great day both of you.

At the back end of May this year I purchased a Sigma 120-400 for use with my K1. When it arrived I found that although it worked perfectly on my K3, it would not work at all with the K1 and the mount too was the original which did leave a small scratch on the K1. Following some research I learned that it wasn't compatible with the K1 out-of-the-box and required an update from Sigma. I decided not to keep the lens but before returning it I did contact Sigma UK via email about said issues and was pleasantly surprised to receive a reply within minutes. For the benefit of others who might be experiencing Sigma mount issues and related, here is Sigma's response:

"Hi Peter,
Sorry to hear you have an issue with your Sigma lens.
Please go to Repairs & support – Sigma UK (sigma-imaging-uk.com) and follow the instructions for sending it to us for an update and mount modification. We will do this free of charge.
Turnaround time is normally about one week and we will contact you once received.
Kind Regards

Can't argue with that!!!

I would be surprised if anything has changed since this time but of course there is no guarantee.

Contemplating the purchase of a 645z but I'm being distracted by the dslr sized medium format Fuji...

I hear folks talk of 65 and 72 etc like it's old... it ain't - or I'm 60 now, must start acting my age... nonsense! utter nonsense!!! People grow old in their heads and their body follows suit. Think young, act young, be young and stay young. Thirty five going on fifteen has always been my mantra. Enjoy life and don't give in.

As for a smaller format camera, why not try a 'Q' for a while. Small, light, portable and with and adapter you can still use all your collection of young lads lenses...lol...

The Q's take excellent pics as well and you're keeping in the family so-to-speak.

Enjoy your weekend.

Crikey, to say I'm tempted is a severe understatement...
If it handles anything like my Auto-Takumar 55/2.2, it'll be a doozy.
The Auto Tak 55mm f2.2 is a cracker alright. If I didn't own a mint Tak 85mm f1.9 I would have bought this already. Got to be the best bargain 85mm tak I've seen.

Grab it whilst you can Ben. You can always move it on if needed. Just my thoughts!....
