The Pentax DA 55-300 old version performs remarkably well on the K1, is readily available, relatively inexpensive, lightweight and compact for travelling. Yes it's still APCS an you do get a bit of vignetting but nothing so serious that can't be lived with or rectified in post.
If max aperture is really criitcal to you then maybe the Sigma 100-300 as has been suggested but even that only has a max aperture of F4, is not cheap and somwhat heavy. F2.8 limits one very much to a 70-200. For a good alround general purpose though I still reckon the Da green band 55-300 is a good option to consider.

Just a thought.

Ffordes put up a bunch of stuff on their website in the last couple of days. Some of the items have already gone but a couple of notable items remain. The following both classed as Excellent++ are a Pentax 85mm F1.9 Super Takumar at £299.00 https://www.ffordes.com/p/SOR-42-046073/pentax-m42/85mm-f19-super-takumar Not qulite as sought after as its f1.8 sibling but photographically you're never going to spot a difference, and also a Pentax 120mm F2.8 SMC M at £149.00 https://www.ffordes.com/p/SH-42-046153/pentax-manual/120mm-f28-smc-m

They also had this, a Pentax 135mm F2.5 Super Takumar at £79.00 https://www.ffordes.com/p/SOR-42-046072/pentax-m42/135mm-f25-super-takumar It's an older version not the cult 6 element job but excellent value I think given its Mint- condition.

Beautiful lens if not a tad pricey, however, they are increasingly hard to find especially in tip-top condition like this so on balance perhaps good value for someone in the market for one of these.

What I like about Vintage Classic is that I've always found their descriptions very accurate. They appear to take a pride in their sales.

I won't be buying because I too already have a lovely copy.

Thanks for posting.
Interesting viewpoint with which I wholeheartedly concur. What sets these cars apart fom modern, high tech vehicles is they have SOUL.
I have similar feelings about modern vs vintages lenses. Modern lenses like modern cars might be faster and sharper but vintage lenses have character and soul, qualities I would choose anyday over fast and modern.

Maybe one day we will have vintage lens rallys.

PS Lovely photo's

There is one here Rodcy described as in excellent condition. Not cheap at £299.00 but the best price of the current available crop.

It's heart sinking feeling when this happens and you have my greatest sympathy so good luck and best wishes with the repair or in sourcing a replacement.
